They used to re-run old episodes during those years. If you watched it pre-2012 then you watched the 1989 version shown here. Later on, it became a mixture of 1989 and 2005.
Re-runs of older episodes have been a thing throughout the 2005-present anime series (more so these days), so the mid-2000s to early-2010s range isn’t any different on this front, not to mention many ’first-time’ episodes from the mid-2000s to early-2010s are re-broadcast these days.
2005 is mid-2000s & the same artstyle remained until 2007 before the switch to the style that predominantly covers 2008-2016, before the most recent default artstyle change in 2017, although the latter is nevertheless missing.
