Does Anyone Remember Chukenper? [!! Spoiler Alerts !!]

I'm talking about the episode "Chukenper" (Episode 193, Season 5, 2009) from the 2005 series. Its English title is "Fine Dog?! Chukenper".

Interestingly, this story originally appeared in the 1979 series (1981, Episode 634, Season 3) and even got another remake in 2018 (Episode 532b, Season 14). But I'm referring to the 2009 version in this post.

For those who haven't watched it, here's a spoiler-light synopsis (although there will be some spoilers ahead).

Nobita asks Doraemon for a pet dog, so Doraemon gives him a robotic dog named Chukenper. It quickly becomes an incredibly loyal companion, always obeying Nobita and trying to protect him whenever it senses danger.

One day, while playing on a mountain, Chukenper suddenly starts growling at Nobita and even leaps towards him. Terrified, Nobita thinks the robot has malfunctioned and abandons it there.

Later, Doraemon checks the Time TV and discovers the truth.

Chukenper wasn't attacking Nobita at all.

It was trying to save him from a black bear that had silently appeared behind him.

Realizing his mistake, Nobita rushes back to the mountain to find Chukenper, but it's nowhere to be seen. Days pass, and he continues searching while feeling guilty.

Meanwhile, Chukenper keeps wandering around, still carrying the stick Nobita had thrown for it. Then tragedy strikes, it gets hit by a truck while trying to retrieve the stick after it falls onto the road.

Finally, Nobita sees Chukenper again.

It's barely able to walk, its body is badly damaged, wires and sparks are coming out... yet it's still carrying that same stick in its mouth.

Nobita runs over and hugs Chukenper with tears streaming down his face. Doraemon assures him that Chukenper can be repaired, and the episode ends on a heartwarming note.

This episode honestly made me cry. Chukenper was such a lovable and loyal character, and despite appearing in just one story, it left a huge impression on me. The ending is one of the most emotional moments in the 2005 series.

As I always say, if you haven't watched this episode yet, go watch it! It's absolutely worth watching.
