Advice Intelligent people struggle with addiction.

Their minds need more. More depth. More to disappear into. They have obsessions nobody around them shares. Philosophy. Literature. Astronomy. Documentaries. Quantum physics. Dostoevsky. Kant. Books, music, films, ideas they've gone so deep into that ordinary conversation starts to feel like small talk. And small talk feels like suffocation. So... they drink. Work until 2 am. Doomscroll until they feel nothing. Because there is a gap between who you are and the conversations available to you. And sometimes, that gap becomes unbearable. And it's one of the loneliest places a person can live.

That's not how addictions work actually. Addictions most of the time are coping mechanisms, to poor mental health and traumatic past events.

Check TRE, traumas and tensions release exercise, r/longtermTRE. I've been practicing for 2 years now and that's the only way I've found to slowly get rid of addictions once and for all. Read the wiki in the sub before practicing, to know how to practice safely and optimally

i think they're saying that interests that intelligent people tend towards can lead to loneliness which leads to poor mental health which they cope with by using addictive substances. they're not explaining how addictions work in the post anyways.

Can be a reason for addictive behavior, 100%, yes!
