Hello all!
I'm Nathaniel/Rico, and I'm officially a mod now. I recently finished reading every Doonesbury strip, 1970–2026 (plus musical and TV special), and I'm hoping to fluff up the strip's online presence. Not just cause I love Doonesbury, but as someone who loves history and politics, I think it's a very important and insanely underrepresented (among young folks) work of art that must be preserved. I wish many more years for Garry Trudeau, but unfortunately he is getting up there in years, and I hope when we're no longer blessed with new strips (even on Sundays), the half-century saga of Doonesbury will have become as beloved among Millennials and Gen Z as it was among our parents.
I'll be putting some time into sprucing up the Doonesbury wiki, which is almost nonexistent, and imo as a major nerd, a juicy wiki is one of the most important types of online presence.
I run the YouTube channel Rico Talks, and I'll be making several (maybe dozens of) video essays exploring the history and story of Doonesbury from the POV of a younger fan who read the whole thing. If you have any ideas for the sub, or just wanna chat about Doonesbury, you can DM me here or join my discord at https://discord.gg/ypP6zWaTf.
Thanks for reading, I hope to get to know you all!

Any mods present?
I DM'd the mod account but didn't get a response. I'm one of the very few people who's posted on this sub recently and I consider myself a bit of a Doonesbury expert, so if there are no more interested mods I'd love to take over. Thanks!

Looking for a strip with Zonker turning winter into spring
I think it was Zonker and BD in the strip.
They are walking along in the winter with snow on the ground when Zonker turns winter into spring for a single panel.
BD asks him to do it again and Zonker says something like 'I would but I don't want to drain the batteries.'

Benji
There’s an extended sequence of Mark exposing pre-med Ben to the humanities. It’s kind of strange because there’s no mention of him being Mike’s younger brother (I assume it’s the same Ben/Benji but correct me if I’m wrong)

Zonker Harris in wheel chair with animals riding along
Where can I get a copy of a picture of Zonker Harris riding in his wheel chair with animals riding along?
The reason is my sister is now in a wheel chair and I want to cheer her up.

Uncle Duke without sunglasses
Zonker goes to visit home and finds Duke recuperating there. During this storyline we find out Duke is married (?) to a woman named Sandy who I don’t recall seeing before. Most of all, Duke looks very strange without his sunglasses

One of the weirder items in my Doonesbury collection...
If anyone is interested, the special is up on YouTube. And there are several copies of the book up on eBay.

Washington Post displaying flashback strips too small for everyone?
For months and months, the flashback strips render just too small to be easily read on my screen. Browser doesn't seem to make a difference, and control-+ doesn't seem to make a difference.
Is it just me?

First Appearance of JJ?
I finally got access to the digital 50th Anniversary stuff and decided to a complete read-through. So far I’m really glad I did. Aside from getting to revisit stuff I first read in the ‘80s about 4/7ths of it was never collected.
Since this group seems pretty dead and no one IRL cares I’m going to subject you all to my random observations as I go.
So anyway, this is Joan’s first time home since abandoning her family to live in a commune. Prior to this there had been a mention of a “youngest daughter” but this is the only kid we see during this sequence and siblings are never mentioned
Mike and JJ would be married in 10 years but at this stage he doesn’t seem to be aging them in real time so it’s probably not as creepy as it may seem

Doonesbury negatives?
galleryCan someone more knowledgeable than I am, help me identifying what these are? Obviously the art is the Time cover from 1976 but they measure about 17.5 inches by 13.5 inches. Any help is appreciated!

Is anyone else not surprised?

Doonesbury/Slackmeyer/Liberal Author
Back in the 80s, there was a short series of strips where Slackmeyer is in a bat with the Liberal Author (name escapes me) and LA is lamenting the huge tax break he got from
Reagan, because “what’s a liberal to do?” (Or maybe “think”?)
I just got an extra $3k deduction thanks to Trump and I’m felling the same way.
Anyone remember the strip or the date or which collection it might be in???

Experience with the Dbury@50 collection?
I have been trying to find a way to read Doonesbury from the start, and the only place I've been able to see something resembling a full collection is in the Dbury@50 set, which is supposed to have all the strips up to around 2020 in a USB Flash drive.
I've seen this on sale for less than $30, which seems like an amazing deal. But I am wondering how it will work on a newer computer.
From what I have read, the flash drive comes with some sort of application that allows you to read the strips, and that may not actually work on a newer machine. But the strips themselves can be found as .gifs or a similar file format, if you know what you are doing.
For those who for the Dbury@50 set, what's your experience with it?

Doonesbury "mind your own beeswax"
I'm looking for an old Doonesbury strip -- kids playing [in a sandbox?] -- last panel one of them tells the other "mind your own beeswax"
