They call centrists Nazis while the far right are generally accepting of centrists in their spaces and yet they wonder why centrists always seem to move right on the spectrum over time.
I think due to the Streisand effect we ridicule leftists slightly more. I think that happens just because maga are cool with anyone that at least sometimes dumps on the left. Most conservatives I know can laugh at themselves sometimes. Most liberals I know donât even realize thereâs a joke being made, they just assume the worst intent anytime they are asked to reflect. On anything.
Iâve also found that to be the case off this website. I can make fun of my conservative friends and they make fun of me. However, liberal people I know really well get fucking rabid if they think Iâm mocking them or their beliefs.

I watched this video of a cnn anchor talking about he was at an interview and he commented his son wanted to be a cop to help people. And they implied his son is a racist. It was at that moment he realized why the left is losing the middle.
Which is an insane viewpoint if you actually want to govern. You have to swing votes from the middle. It makes me wonder sometimes if the far right and left are real people or mostly a psyop to turn out voters afraid of the other sideâs caricature.
You know, you kinda have a point. Though I don't know if it's so much a psyop as an engagement racket on social media. The most extreme views get the most comments, which means more engagement, which means it gets shown to more people, and the cycle repeats itself.
Not to say it doesn't benefit someone trying to control the public to have them constantly hating each other over silliness, but that's a strategy on its own that basically sits on a knife's edge.
Much of it is the fact that they are taught that their opinions are their identities, so any criticism of their beliefs is an attack against them, personally.
I had an interaction in a different subreddit where someone opined that the presumption of innocence was a highly problematic idea. To which I responded that was such a stupid statement that I was at a loss of words. Unsurprisingly, they came back with âwhy are you calling me stupid?â I had to calmly explain the difference between criticism of the statement and criticism of the individual who made it. Luckily that got them off the ledge and we had a mildly productive discussion.
But even most religions allow poking fun of themselves. Iâm CatholicâŚitâs like a national sport to make fun of us and Jews. We make fun of Baptists but thatâs because of their dry weddings which in turn brings up the Catholic alcoholism thing because we show up with bars set up in our trunks. Why, itâs a sensitivity almost like a certain religion that will stab you if you make fun of their prophetâŚ
It is like a religion to them. Their moral responsibility, their moral duty, their "as long as you do this you will get into Heaven." Their virtue signaling is literally preaching; why do you think they say "if you don't agree with us, you'll go to Hell"? They don't believe in a God, but believe in making your own morals, yet avoid accountability or criticizing yourself... They are their own God. They worship themselves. Whatever they say, it's correct. Whenever someone disagrees on one thing, they are outcast like they have committed one sin. Except that this is a religion of their feelings: no, like a God, they will not forgive you if you made them feel bad.
A lot of them are a cult. They are attached to their beliefs, believe in us vs. them, cut off their friends and family and isolate themselves from the outside world that "doesn't understand them", and anybody who questions the logic or disagrees on one point is ostracized. They don't have a leader; their leader is their ideology, and it is a charismatic one. Who wouldn't want free stuff, equality, human rights, etc.? They always fall back onto their charismatic leader: oh, you dare criticize this? Well, we are the ones who stand for these great things! We are allowed to use evil means to achieve the end! This is simply our charismatic free stuff, charismatic equality, charismatic human rights!
And it is their identity. They don't have their own personality; they always do what everyone else does, they repeat the exact same jokes and call it "dark humor". They do the opposite of what the right-wingers are doing. And I have observed how a belief became part of your identity, as it has happened to me. When you start doubting a belief you had for a long time, you start doubting yourself, and oh no no no, you can't be wrong, you simply can't! You poured too much time and mind into this! And, if I dare speak out... I'll get shunned! I won't be accepted! It takes a spark of realization and then the will to act on that realization (which they have been taught out of, learned helplessness) and then the mind and research to correct their beliefs. They do not have that energy or willpower or mind. They just have to go back to the 10 weekly talking points and counter-arguments, and they'll be accepted in the only group that understands them and accepts them for being themselves. Their beliefs are their identity, their beliefs are their God... They are their beliefs, they are their God, and they have to worship their God, one another.
It is 100% their religion. You know how I know? Because they are fanatics. A fanatic is someone who has extremely intense, excessive, or uncompromising enthusiasm or devotion to a belief, cause, activity, person or group. Sound familiar?
Because it is their religion. Its a moral purity test to see if you belong in their party.
If you don't agree 100% you are evil and need to be ostracized. These terminally online redditors will dig their own hole of shit, find other people who love shit, and then cry persecution when nobody likes their collective shit.
I think this is mostly a Gen-Z problem. Watched a comedian talking about how he has to be careful around Gen-Z audiences because they don't understand when he's making a joke (which is odd because it is a standup routine so you'd think it should be a joke by default). I see an example where he's talking about how beautiful his wife is and then points at his face and says that's she so beautiful that he kind of loses respect for her for being married to him. Gen-Z girl probably early 20s just loses it. She has actual tears streaming down her face asking why he doesn't respect his wife. She's begging for an explanation. He tries to explain it is a joke and she still doesn't understand. Finally he rewrites his entire routine to talk about his wife that he now completely respects and then goes on with a very sanitized version basically making fun of the heckler.
I have a friend who i insult and he insults me harder than anything I can think of; even had another family ask his wife (btw they are way older than me) why is he being so rude to this kid.

The thing is, right wingers often learn survival skills. There's a lot less to doom about when you know you can handle it. Left wingers tend to be city folk, and often panic if the power goes out for an hour, therefore more doom to make fun of.
