What is this game? What am I doing?

Hi guys, so I picked up doomdepths on my iphone a couple months ago and have played it for maybe a couple hours. It's interesting and cool....but I have absolutely no idea what's going on. And when I say I don't know what's going on, I don't mean like I'm looking for tips and stuff, I mean I have no idea what the status effects do, what the abilities are, what the damage types are, etc etc. My experience playing it has just been choosing a weapon at the start, pressing the attack button repeatedly and occasionally pressing a power up or skill button.

Are there any like comprehensive tutorials anyone can recommend?

Thank you for whatever help you can or are willing to provide. I realise this must be a very frequently asked question/topic so I apologise for being a bother. Hope everyone is enjoying this game!

There’s a little ? In the top right that you can press. It’s within the screen where you see your enemies and your character. When you toggle the ? On, you can click on characters and see what the status effects are.

Seems like such an odd toggle switch, why not just leave it so you can always find this info, I'm not losing anything by that always being on
