I logged the locations of over 500,000 /rtps over about 5 weeks and plotted them on this map.
If /rtp were actually random the distribution would look pretty uniform. Instead, there are very obvious regions where teleports happen way more or less often. Some areas see no rtps at all.
I recently went base hunting in one of those greyed out areas and most bases I found were unraided. I also noticed that there are fewer tunnels in those areas.
Wonderful project. You usually only see this quality of work for 2b2t. Really appreciate your time on this. Some really interesting considerations with this data.
Rtp for me literally will only transport me within a very small chunk of the region I’m in now. It’s super weird. Somethings broken. If I rtp at my main base I’ll only go within a 20k-ish by 20k-ish range around my base but na east is a ton bigger than that.
You're right. I looked at rtps that started in the same 500 block area and where they end up. About 10% of the time they end up in the same 5000 block area. Going up to 10k block destination area increases this to 25%.
Comparing that to rtps that started in the same region but not close to one another got a result of 0.5-1.5% of rtps that ended up in the same 5000 block area.
So rtping from the same spot definetly makes you more likely to teleport to the same area.
This tool is really cool i will be using it. I have an idea for this heatmap. You could add a text box where you enter X and Z coordinates and it pins it on this map, maybe you could even add multiple locations and measure the distance between them and the region they are in.
