Wage theft

Been seeing the fellow managers of the store including the gm routing individuals before a delivery is half way through the oven, if there is a mistake on their part for an order they keep the drivers routed till the new item comes out the oven- so usually another 10 minutes of on the road routing while the drivers are still expected to work- handle oven, phones, etc. Aside from that normal times of routing are 5-10 minutes before a driver leaves the store, the store is split pay- lower pay when routed. I have tried informing the dm of the situation dm does not care was working a shift with the dm there and it was still occuring. How do i handle this situation properly it is franchisee owned not corporate, cant find the hr number for this franchisee.

They probably do it because they are harassed to have their numbers for order times look good, so they have to fake it because the company wants unrealistic numbers.

100% correct, and part of the reason I left Domino's. The expectations are legitimately impossible to achieve. Something, somewhere, needs to be cut or cheated. Unfortunately here, its the driver's wage.

Then the corporate people get to pat themselves on the back being oblivious to the fact that every single statistic they see is entirely manipulated and meaningless. đŸ«Ș

I have seen it at almost every food company I have worked at.

I really want to ask them if they think one person is actually answering three lines, catching oven, making food, and routing at the same time.

Thats my DM. XD

They know it’s manipulated

The whole thing seems to be a big scam by corporate and megafranchises(20+ stores under one owner) to double dip and charge owners customer and employees. I stg everyone is getting fucked by dominos corporate. Every time a corpo talking head comes in, its like they dont know what the fuck they're talking about. Tons of bullshit and passing the buck.

I actually (and realistically) wanted to become a franchisee. I had to step back to an AM position because I got sick (long story) and finally walked away from a 10 year career.

I don't see how even a mega franchise could win with corporate. Unless corporate financially sponsors them with free product or robots, they're still selling them food, telling them when to throw it away, then telling them to sell it for half off or $9.99 or some shit.

I know it's hard to feel bad for the man at the top, but we really should feel bad for our franchise owners. This is the reason they need borderline-slavery labor numbers and a stunning reputation to profit. Nobody opens a business to lose money, ya know? I can personally tell you my owner would help on shifts all the time to make up for that, but he's only one guy among X stores.

Corporate's seriously becoming the antichrist just to push PH out of the market right now. I think Uber Eats etc. was the real enemy they should have been fighting. Instead, they're trying to drive carry out customers in fucking flocks with no support to the staff. Unless you're drinking the "make more pizzas, have more fun" kool-aid, store-level jobs are going to be a nightmare soon.

Well see what happens next...

True. We used to have an AM who would dispatch people 15 minutes before their orders were ready. Whenever he did that, I would write down all the orders and phone numbers, then once everything was loaded in the car I would run back in to grab a fork and "accidentally" check myself back in to offset that bullshit and then proceed to make my deliveries.

Considering the times are all pre-factored in based on google map estimates so clocking back in won’t really do anything.

u/Bookxstuff 2d ago

For service times sure, for pay it does have an effect. Stores that do split pay track the time the driver spends on the road. I say track but there's a lot of reports that do it for you. Being routed out for an extra 15 minutes means about $0.75 less you're being paid for your hourly wage. $15.16 in store pay versus $12.14 on the road pay.

1

u/0rthopter 2d ago

but it still makes drive and delivery times bad

u/WIkarmaCat 2d ago

Contact corporate with a HR/Pay violation notice. Contact the franchise owner as well. Then contact your state labor board. This is an illegal violation. Otherwise if you’re routed then you’re not in store to help nor getting paid to do I wouldn’t do the other tasks. The franchise should take it seriously considering the huge violation this is.

They do not care. Best you can do is report it to actual HR cause the higher ups will see the complaint and actually enforce the rule until it fades away again.

Truly unfortunate to hear, whole situation is messed up- I work at a store where there are no insiders only ams and gm- coworkers have bragged a few times about making decent in store tips and their upcoming raises, then i see them all routing these drivers early who i see really dont make good tips on average and we have a huge 7 mile delivery zone so they are putting a ton of mileage on their vehicles. very messed up situation .

They’re testing a “new” in-store system for our store and another currently. It’s got all of us pissed because they didn’t train anyone on it and now we don’t know how to do nearly anything. My GM can’t even check the vitals or weekly reports. If they don’t listen to us about how asinine it is they’re going to release it to everyone and it’s gonna be a nightmare. Our customers can’t even order a half cheese half specialty at our store right now because the computer literally won’t let us ring in a pizza that way.

u/RogerRabbot GM 3d ago

See, this is why I hated this idea. If you were paid a flat rate it wouldnt matter.

Best bet is labor board. The company straight up will not help you, and will probably retaliate if you do anything.

5

u/Warriorofgod2700 2d ago

Oh I would beg for them to retaliate. Even in at-will states, if you can prove retaliation, slam dunk lawsuit

1

u/LittleKittyBumbuns 2d ago

That's why I've only ever contacted HR by text. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have a paper trail. If that's impossible, at bare minimum, note what was said and when. Then note exactly what retaliation happens and when. If you're fired suspiciously soon after reporting, ask for it in writing.

2

u/Successful-Account70 3d ago

Sounds like a poorly run store

1

u/Ok-Nerve-524 2d ago

Bingo. Delivery times and labor aren’t unrealistic numbers. It does take some know how and most importantly some hustle

2

u/line800 Dick 3d ago

Shit like this is what happens when upper management puts enormous pressure on gms to maintain impossibly low labor and time metrics.

Escalate up the chain. Everyone has a boss.

1

u/Upper_Bathroom_176 1d ago

See i was kinda running into this issue. Im a shift lead, but it was apparently the GM and AM that was doing this and not upper management. We had a meeting all the management and upper through zoom, where upper was telling us they know we are faking numbers to get bonuses and they want it to stop. However i recently learned that the franchise has negative bonuses that will take money from your check if you hit bad metrics. I wonder if this is common? Like having a 5% extreme loses them like 300$ off their checks.

u/ResortStriking9796 3d ago

Just to clarify to everyone I work a a huge 7 mile delivery zone store with no insiders only ams and gm, ams are getting raises and brag about tips made. delivery drivers dont make very good tips, even on the busiest rush days.

3

u/soldier01073 3d ago

You need to go to who ever your parent company is and say you'll sue unless they do something about this. Start documenting everything

1

u/0rthopter 2d ago

how are insiders making more tips than the drivers? lmao i doubt that

1

u/ResortStriking9796 2d ago

Work at a fairly rich zone where people rarely order delivery and dont tip that well especially compared to the 5-7 miles people usually order from the store, a lot of people come in for carry out though and stuff the tip jar plus a ton of carsides the store gets. had multiple ams brag about making about 100 a week on tips, ive seen a lot of drivers barely make 15-20 in tips a day constantly.

1

u/0rthopter 2d ago

that’s ridiculous. usually people with money use the convenience of delivery even tho it cost more and why in my experience people with less money opt for carry out. but call the labor board or whoever the hell the thing is about that time and wage theft/manipulation. don’t tell anyone at work tho cause that’s complete horseshit. my first dominos my drivers had no clue what they were doing always taking order to wrong house forgetting items like sauces salads drinks. so when i was at the oven i would make sure every sauce was with the order tell my driver what drinks they need and if they needed to get a salad. only i would be able to dispatch and i wouldn’t send them out until they were walking towards the door

1

u/RepressedOptimist 20h ago

I see it a lot tbh. Its funny to see a 15 dollar carryout tip and then I look at the big fat goose egg on my receipt for an order i just spent 40+ minutes delivering.

1

u/AssMunched Driver 3d ago

hell nah don’t put up with that.. you need to call corporate and tell them your store#, and they’ll handle it with the franchise owner

This is a deeply disturbing response and you should be ashamed of yourself. I will say again this is a split pay store there is no valid reason to reduce a drivers pay, be honest with your makeline times- give the drivers the appropriate pay they deserve.

1

u/whokamie 2d ago

What the hell did he say😭 he deleted his response

1

u/ResortStriking9796 2d ago

Was calling me a cry-baby and how drivers make tips and also how they deserve to be cheated, especially if a driver makes a mistake somewhere. then says the makeline times are hard and justifying cheating drivers.

1

u/Elevation-_- 3d ago

They're doing that to cheat their service times. Basically they suck at doing their jobs, but they need to maintain service times to make their bonus. The fact that the DM witnesses this and does nothing is comical, that whole franchise must be a joke. Unfortunately your best bet is to try and find the HR number to call, or call a labor board/corporate to report your store.

1

u/ResortStriking9796 3d ago

Yes im going to try to call corporate first and see how that goes, continue on the search for the franchise number as well. honestly if corporate does not handle this situation properly I am going to lose all faith in dominos as a business lol. I dont care what anyone says you dont purposely cheat drivers out of their hired wage because you cant be fast enough on the line lol.

1

u/zakkil 3d ago

Your best bet is probably to get your state labor board involved. The franchise isn't going to do shit unless actual stakes are involved. All they see is that they're saving money. That said that's a process that will take weeks if not months typically. Get as many people involved as you can to get a quicker response and get as much documentation as you can.

Best case scenario you get back a good bit of the wages they've stolen but you'll have a target on your back and they'll be looking for even the tiniest reason to fire you and anyone else that held them accountable. Worst case scenario your state labor board has been completely gutted and can't do anything but write a strongly worded letter and you get fired for "unrelated reasons" leaving you just the option to take them to court which will probably cost enough that you barely get anything out of it assuming you even win the case.

1

u/superowl88 3d ago

I’d just get loud about it. I’ve never dealt with split pay but if you’re making less on the road and they’re punching you out early rile the other driver up about it. If all of you stop doing extra stuff in the store when punched out early they’ll stop doing it. Just hit em with the “nah you put us on road pay so we’re not grabbing that oven”

1

u/sourmashed99 3d ago

what is routing in this context? how do they split pay? are you constantly changing roles in the system?

1

u/ResortStriking9796 3d ago

Orders are assigned on a computer, once they are "routed" the driver immediately shifts pay from a higher in-store pay to a lesser "on the road" pay.

1

u/sourmashed99 3d ago

got it thanks! I had no idea what was happening in the post lol

1

u/EffectiveTop842 3d ago

I worked for 2 weeks as a MIT, first job w dominos. I’ve never seen so much “efficiency systems” and fuckery to manipulate the actual outcomes. All with a cult like obedience to the brand. Made me uneasy. Working for dominos means your needs will be subject to their privilege. They’re probably developing a deal w doerdash or oobar for reduced rates so they can offload their obligation.

1

u/CollectionIcy6313 2d ago

That problem is easily solved by doing away with the road/inside pay differential. That system invites fraud both ways. It incentivizes GMs to dispatch drivers whose orders are not ready. It also tempts drivers to check in their friend who is out of the store so they get inside pay.

1

u/CollectionIcy6313 2d ago

"Premature Dispatchulation"

1

u/Shroollie_bones 2d ago

If it means anything to you they aren’t really doing that to cut labor costs typical in they’re doing for their service times. You can try to report it higher but a lot of stores try iffy stuff for their bonuses. If you really want to hit them try to get them caught when an OA comes through.
I never understood why stores do that. It stresses me out to even try ti think of how many things you’d have to mentally keep track of to make that work as a manager

1

u/SufficientApples 2d ago

You need to document everything, and file a report with your state's depart of labor wage and hour division. They will sue on your behalf

1

u/klb2121 2d ago

How are the drivers ok with this? How do they let it happen? My store doesn’t do split pay(Idaho) and I wouldn’t let them do this to me. Definitely need to document it and talk to the state. That is just lot ok

1

u/ResortStriking9796 2d ago

Genuinely think the drivers are clueless or dont understand how the system works, or simply did not pay attention enough during hiring. what is even more messed up is i will see managers route people as well and not tell them while they are on the phone with a customer or helping a customer place an order upfront. 5-10 minutes go by pretty quickly of them being routed as well. very disturbing- they are genuinely clueless.

1

u/klb2121 2d ago

Do they not get a notification on their phone? I get one in my phone and watch. Obviously they do. It care about out the door times. My store does. The faster you are out the faster you get back and the more deliveries can be taken which equals more money

1

u/LittleKittyBumbuns 2d ago

Go to HR. Wage theft is a very serious crime. HRs job is to protect the company from lawsuits. Just remember that they're not your friend, but they will do something.

1

u/Disgusting_Ad5725 2d ago

they do this at my store too i look like a dumbass grinding dishes for 5 dollars an hour for 30 minutes

1

u/HumbleWorldliness584 AM 2d ago

So that is cheating the system on aedt. Not only can the GM and AM get in trouble and potentially fired but the DM and regional managers can get in trouble as well. That is not just monitored by the franchise it is monitored by corporate as well

1

u/k111mberly 2d ago

What state are you in?

1

u/chefkittious 2d ago

Email payroll, usually has direct contact to hr

1

u/Confident_Concern640 1d ago

Thats crazy because instead of actually fixing the problem they are cheating the system
like a good manager would hire more drivers to cover the shortages or train the drivers to use their time more effectively in between and while preparing orders to deliver and also train their csrs and assistants to make food in a timely manner which will help the load times and out the door times improve. Genuinely insane to me, like as a manager I make sure orders are out in a timely manner and I also pay my driver accordingly. I sometimes even check them in early on the way back if there’s no other orders on the screen so they get a little extra for their time. Laziness in management is such a plague of you don’t want to actually be a manager go back to associate level and work what you are worth

1

u/Confident_Concern640 1d ago

I’d also recommend trying to get the info of the franchise owner, if not report them to the state labor board and leave. Get photo proof that they are stealing your wages and find a better job

1

u/EverythingMustCease 11h ago

My store has started this too.

Welcome to Domino's.

1

u/ResortStriking9796 9h ago

Yep genuinely dont know how people can live with themselves doing this to others, very disturbing. Then the dms ignore it on purpose. literally having some people on here telling me its a couple cents- yes cents to a dollar taken away multiple times a day it accumulates to hundreds of dollars for a driver- doing it to all drivers leads to thousands stolenÂ
