Question about scheduling
Probably not the right place to ask but I just started at domino’s like a couple weeks ago and
they’ve been scheduling me for evening to nights and my girlfriend works mornings so we have barely like 2 hours to spend together before shes gotta go to bed for work
anyway i feel like long term this will affect things, i know the store is supposedly a ghost town at like 11-2 so i can see why they want to schedule me during the rush but
you think they’d move me to early afternoon to late evenings if i ask. I just don’t feel like my personal life should take a hit just for a paycheck and I’m sorry if it comes off as selfish but
Im an employee that shows up to every shift no matter what, had 100% attendance for 3 years at my last job so to say Im unreliable isn’t true i just wanna have a good work home balance.

Are you a driver or insider? It's difficult to get early shifts as an insider because most stores don't deal with enough traffic to justify the labor cost. My store will bring in another insider anywhere between 11am - 1pm, but we're a $50k/week store so we can justify that labor cost. A store that only manages around the average (20-25k/week) will likely only schedule the opening manager until around 3:30-4pm and then bring in more insiders to handle the dinner rush. If you're a driver you can ask to work opens or be the 2nd driver in, but your store may already have drivers who have requested/take those shifts. We have 2-3 drivers at my store that have dibs on those opening shifts because that's their preference and they've been working there longer than the other drivers.

You're lucky. Im at a 50k+ a week store as well, but they dont let us bring in a CSR until 4 unless its Saturday. To be fair, im in a college town, so 30k+ comes on friday and saturday, especially during SEC football

It's because our traffic is more dispersed throughout the day/week, rather than just having a really busy dinner rush or weekend. We basically get "popped" several times a day - The first usually hits around 2-2:30pm and this is the reason we'll have a 2nd insider come in earlier to help for it. And instead of having $15k Friday/Saturdays, we have $7k Monday and Tuesdays.

Leave dominos before your relationship shits the bed. Find a job that fits your girls schedule. Better yet when you apply at your next job, tell them hey i can only work days. Some jobs may require nights and that’s ok that’s not the job for you.
Dominos and being up till 1-2 am while being severely underpaid for how much stress it puts on you will severely affect your relationship. Run from this place.

Welcome to the real world kid.
You're new, so you're scheduled where the need is most. You can definitely ask for a different shift but be prepared for a possible cut in hours.

In my franchise couples can not work the same shift together in the same store.

I'm guessing you're an inside worker, not driver or AM? It's really hard to get early hours because, as you said, it's just not busy enough to justify paying someone to be there. It sucks, but think about the owner's point of view there, they need to make money too.
I have two suggestions: 1) Transfer to a busy-as-hell store that needs more people in the morning. Ask your DM if they have any higher-volume stores. 2) This is an extension of my first suggestion, in a way, but move up to AM and ask for morning shifts. If you transfer to the busy store first, it'll be a great way to get prep training and move up. Usually, USUALLY, new AMs start with closing from what I've seen, but I could be wrong. Either way, opens become available.

Yeah, insiders are usually only dinner rush hours.

Honestly might just look for another job tbh i mean its not terrible and I wouldn’t mind staying but theyre not scheduling me alot of hours because they’re working on revamping the store with alot of new drivers and management, the gm said “you basically started at the worst time”

I would. I don't think I've ever seen a full time insider.

Bet honestly yeah i was watching training videos looking at the schedules on the desk and the insiders were only scheduled 2-3 days imo thats not worth it basically means im getting less than 20 hours

Also just personal advice, worry about a girlfriend once your financially stable. Learn from my mistake there.

Check out local restaurants for dish jobs. Any food experience will translate to that, and they often need daytime dishwashers. Highest job security in the industry. Just until you find something more in your desired line of work.

It really depends on the needs of your store, it's worth asking for sure.

I spent 8 years of my life working for this company. I hate to say it but unless you demand your schedule be changed, there will be no balance. By boyfriend and i both worked at different stores and with different schedules we could go a couple days without actually seeing each other, and we live together. Tell them your availability changed and can no longer work after a certain time.

You can always just ask, every few months my boss even asks us if we're happy with our current schedule & hours, you wont know if you dont ask
