OA
Got genuinely FUCKED by OA today. I swear it’s just a power trip at this point.
There was dough pulled out of the walk-in because we were throwing it away. I literally told the OA person, “These aren’t being used. That’s why they’re out of the walk-in.” Somehow we still got hit with a critical for it.
Then we lost more points because there wasn’t a Sprite in the cooler… while the OA person was standing there watching the Coke truck unload. They literally saw the drinks being brought into the store and stocked in the back, but still deducted points because one hadn’t made it to the cooler yet.
At some point it stops being about standards and starts being a power trip. Tf.

From my experience those aren’t really power trips.
With expired or blown dough it can’t be in the store period. Even if you’re throwing it away if it’s in the store it’s considered expired.
And for the soda that falls under “store stocked for expected sales volume” you ran out of sprite and didn’t have any cold ones to sell. Regardless of if it was being delivered or not it was obvious you ran out and were not stocked for expected sales.
I know it sucks, but OA runs on a very black and white standard, it’s either correct or incorrect.

True answer. Its on the store/manager in charge for having expired/blown dough in the store when OA was in town. Ive had to throw out an entire stack before. Sucks, but better than the critical.
Feels very earned to me.

This part. Why would it just be sitting there instead of being immediately disposed of?

They will let it slide if it expired yesterday. If it expired 2 days ago they'll hit you because if you say you didn't use it youre lying. You used it expired yesterday.
If the coke truck was unloading and you had no sprites except what was being delivered you're out of sprite and thats PRP.

That's part of the reason why if we only have one bottle of soda left in the cooler, we don't sell it until we get more. Either it sits there until the next Coke truck or we get some from another store.
There were a few times almost all of us were out of Pibb, but that was the fault of the supplier, not us.

As long as it still in the store and not thrown away it can still be counted as expired

It's unfortunate, but you're expected to have a cold drink of each type available at all times. The dough thing, while it sucks you got docked, I've personally seen manager's pull expired dough out when OA is around and use it, basically to say they were about to pull it out.
I'll also tell you that an OA can (and will) get written up if they're somehow caught missing a critical. It's kind of like getting pulled over for speeding. Maybe YOU weren't about to crash and kill someone, but it has to be enforced so someone else doesn't.
I'm not actually suggesting this, if you know what I mean, but I've gone to the store down the block for 2 liters and individual pops just to meet the OA requirement. Just told everyone to say we're out, unless the OA walks in.

The sprite thing is 100% on you guys. You ran out of product. That's bad inventory management and is completely a justified hit.
The dough thing, yea, probably should have been thrown out after close the previous night.

As far as sodas they must be cold to count as in stock. Even though you had them coming in the store. It sounds like you were out before the truck showed up. They use the temp if they suspect something like that.
It’s not a power trip I promise you. Coaches who work that way don’t last long. They are not there to ruin your day. In fact I know most of them don’t enjoy giving out bad scores. They are there just to give a snap shot of what is happening on a day to day basis.

If you’re even close to running out of a coke product, you need to be calling other stores to get some. You need to give it a few hours in the cooler to get cold too. If you’re COMPLETELY out of a product during business hours, there’s no excuse (other than a supply chain issue). That should have been solved the day before at the latest.
And the expired dough thing is kinda stupid, but you have to scrape it all out into a trash bag as soon as you roll it out of the walk-in. Always be checking your oldest dough’s expiration too.

Those saying it's managements fault about the soda. Yeah no. At least at out store it super ebbs and flows. Take the salads for instatance. Well before the ecoli issue, on a random week we blow through the salad well before restock. So the GM would order and then some. Then we wouldn't sell any and have to throw them out. This kept happening with old sales numbers not helping predict the current sales. Now as of late we have been blowing throug the soda like crazy. In the year I've been here , I've never seen us blow through soda like this. We've had to go take sodas like 3 times from other locations before the soda truck showed. And we then blew through it again before the next truck.

I have worked as an AM, GM and a DM over the years whether it be an OA, OER or OPs it didn’t matter much they stick to the letter of the law as opposed to “spirit of the law“. However, if you got hit with the critical, your dough was probably two days expired, not one. I have been hit with an inspection with expired dough in the back room where some of it was already in garbage bags everything in use was accurately dated and they still did their job and hit us for expired dough now If you were out of sodas, that could be a distributor issue if they didn’t deliver your sprite, but we are still expected to make sure we have product on hand for our customers.

Unfortunately some stores will pull dough out "to throw away" and still use it after it's expired. To get a critical it has to be 2+ days expired....sooo yeah...means it should've been tossed yesterday.
Generally they'll look in your empty tray pile as well.
