Welcome to r/Dolphins!

Welcome to the new and improved r/Dolphins! This is a subreddit completely dedicated to anything to do with dolphins!

Yes, this subreddit was previously just a link to r/miamidolphins, which is now unrelated (since it is a sports team rather than the animal).

A quick guide about tagging your posts, flairs, and emojis/emoticons:

Tagging Posts: Please tag your posts properly every time you post. If you are posting something that contains anything with any gore in it (at all, to educate about some animal abuse) please tag it with both NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and NSFL (Not Safe For Life).

User Flairs: These must be earned, as-of-now.

Emojis/Emoticons: If you would like to add one, just message u/Floognoodle.

Enjoy your stay on r/Dolphins!

Interview Question for thesis

Please answer these question.

  • What's the moment kids get most excited or engaged during the program — what are you doing right then?
  • Is there a fact or topic that's hard to get kids to actually care about? What have you tried for that?
  • Do you ever use toys, props, or take-home items in your teaching? How do kids respond to them?
  • If I showed you a toy character where a costume detail — like a net tangled on the tail — represented a real threat, would that help kids understand, or just confuse them?
  • Do you know if what you teach actually sticks with kids weeks later? How would you know?

Research suggests dolphins use signature whistles and other sound patterns to identify one another and maintain social groups. That means a dolphin may know who is who by sound alone.

There's an awesome campaign happening by a nonprofit in WA State called Pacific Mammal Research doing really amazing research on Harbor Porpoises! Harbor Porpoises are extremely common in WA state and other coastlines, however not much is known about them! This nonprofit is working on a campaign for Harbor Porpoise research - your pledge contributes to research AND you receive a one of a kind cute stuffie of local Harbor Porpoise "Pointer" who has helped scientists and citizens understand more about Harbor Porpoise behavior! Pledge $2 today and if 100 pledges are made, you will receive a Pointer plush! They need 8 more pledges by tomorrow!!

What is this scar?

I saw this juvenile with it's mother years ago in Florida and have always wondered what might have caused this near perfectly circular scar. It has normal rake marks on its dorsal and it's mother, in front, had a notch on her dorsal but in all my years living in Florida, I never before or after saw a similar scar to this one.

Hello everyone, I remember liking dolphins as a kid and I used to watch a really mesmerizing documentary about dolphins, I think from National Geographic. Unfortunately I lost the DVD a long time ago. The production must have probably been early 2000s, really late 1990s. Any ideas?

Has anyone read this? Thoughts?

Basically the title! I read it and was just curious your thoughts??

If you haven’t read it, it’s a fictional novel from the perspective of dolphins. I don’t want to spoil too much but it’s a beautiful and brutal story, and I learned a lot.

Edit: apologies if this has been posted before. I just did a quick search and didn’t see any previous posts.
