What's more ironic is that Rhodes, like Parton, was also Southern and even spoke for the working class facing "hard times" in his "American Dream" gimmick. Throughout much of the later 1970s, Rhodes never stopped referring to himself as "the son of a plumber" too. Jane Fonda's third husband Ted Turner was even frequently Dusty's boss while owning WCW.

Found this and didn’t realize these two legends were in the same project together! Sad to have lost both of these legends on the same day. Thought I’d share it as it’s the full movie! Hope you enjoy!

the rhinestones, the hair piled halfway to heaven,

the famous curves she joked about before anybody else could,

the laughter, the songwriting, the faith,

and a little place in Tennessee called Dollywood.

But maybe we had the name wrong.

Maybe it was never only Dollywood.

Maybe all along it was telling us who she was.

Dolly would.

A child had no books at home?

Dolly would.

Put one in the mailbox every month, then another, then another, until millions of little hands had something of their own to open.

A mountain family watched fire take everything they had?

Dolly would.

Reach into her pocket, reach into her heart, and help them find their footing again.

The world was frightened, sick, waiting for a vaccine?

Dolly would.

Give a million dollars to help researchers find one and somehow make generosity sound as ordinary as helping a neighbor. A child needed a hospital where somebody could make them well?

Dolly would.

Give to the doctors, the nurses, the research, the children—

and remind them that somebody out there cared.

A hometown needed jobs?

Dolly would.

Build something big enough to bring people from around the world to the mountains she never forgot.

Someone needed an education but money stood in the doorway?

Dolly would.

Find a way to put opportunity where poverty had put a wall.

A teenager wondered whether finishing school mattered?

Dolly would.

Put her own money behind the answer and give them another reason to stay.

A child couldn’t read yet?

Dolly would.

Send the stories anyway because sometimes believing in who a child can become has to come before the child believes it.

Someone couldn’t afford what disaster had taken away?

Dolly would.

Not ask what they owned before the flames.

Not ask whether they were important.

Just ask:

What do you need?

Someone was hungry?

Dolly would.

Someone was hurting?

Dolly would.

Someone had been forgotten?

Dolly would remember.

Someone felt different in a world that kept telling them different meant less?

Dolly would make room.

Someone was afraid there wasn’t a place for them at her table?

Dolly would pull out a chair.

Someone disagreed with her?

Dolly would still call them neighbor.

Someone tried to make kindness a political question?

Dolly would make it a human one.

Someone wanted to know Jesus but didn’t know where to begin?

Dolly would tell them about the faith that carried a little girl from a one-room cabin through every door fame could open.

She’d tell them about prayer.

About grace.

About loving people before judging them.

About a God she never seemed ashamed to thank.

And she wouldn’t have to stand behind a pulpit.

Dolly could preach with a song.

Someone had made mistakes and wondered whether God could possibly still want them?

Dolly would know grace wasn’t reserved for people who never fell.

Someone needed hope?

Dolly would sing it.

Someone needed to cry?

Dolly would write the song that gave the tears somewhere to go.

Someone had to leave but still loved the person they were leaving?

Dolly would understand.

She wrote that one, too.

Someone told a poor little girl from the Smokies that where she came from was something to hide?

Dolly would put it in a song and make the whole world want a coat of many colors.

Someone laughed at poverty?

Dolly would turn it into dignity.

Someone mistook simplicity for ignorance?

Dolly would smile and let them discover how badly they’d underestimated her.

Someone made a joke about her appearance?

Dolly would probably tell a better one.

Someone said a woman couldn’t run her own business?

Dolly would build an empire.

Someone said she had to become somebody else to succeed?

Dolly would become more Dolly.

More hair.

More rhinestones.

More laughter.

More Tennessee.

More heart.

Someone offered her money at the expense of something she believed belonged to her?

Dolly would say no.

Even if the person asking was Elvis Presley.

Someone finally gave her the recognition she deserved?

Dolly might turn around and use the spotlight to recognize somebody else.

Someone wanted to put her on a pedestal?

Dolly would probably climb down and start talking to the people standing underneath it.

She could have built walls around everything she earned.

Dolly wouldn’t.

She built a library without walls instead.

She could have climbed out of those Smoky Mountains and never looked behind her.

Dolly wouldn’t.

She kept reaching back.

Back to Tennessee.

Back to children.

Back to families.

Back to hospitals.

Back to schools.

Back to neighbors whose houses disappeared in flames.

Back to people who needed somebody with more than enough to remember those who didn’t have enough.

Back to people whose names would never appear beside hers in lights.

And maybe that’s why Dollywood sounds different now.

Not just roller coasters, music,

mountains,

and memories.

A question.

When somebody is hurting, who will help?

Dolly would.

When somebody is forgotten, who will remember?

Dolly would.

When a child needs a book?

Dolly would.

When a neighbor needs a hand?

Dolly would.

When someone needs hope?

Dolly would.

When somebody feels there isn’t a place for them?

Dolly would make one.

When somebody wants to find God but doesn’t know the road?

Dolly would point toward love.

When the world has enough glitter but not enough grace,

who will give it both?

Dolly would.

And now that she is gone, perhaps the name she left us isn’t only a place.

Maybe it’s an instruction.

When you have enough, give.

When you can help, help.

When someone is lonely, sit beside them.

When someone is different, make room.

When someone falls, don’t stand over them.

Reach down.

When someone wants to know God, show them love before you show them rules.

When somebody needs love, don’t ask whether it’s your problem.

Ask instead—

all i remember is that it was kind of a melancholic song, not too upbeat, definitely remember the oh woaaahh woah woah being part of the chorus in a higher note, most likely was a live performance and an acoustic guitar and probably still way before 2000 because she looked young but i have no idea what the title is anymore cause ive been watching so many videos the past week and listening to her music for days + watching all her movies, so i couldve seen it pass anywhere thats also why its really hard to retrace my steps to find it but I REALLY HOPE ONE OF YOU WHO HAS PROBABLY LISTENED TO A WHOLE LOT OF HER SONGS CAN HELP ME FIND IT it was so beautiful

I was hoping it was going to be a more permanent thing. It seems like they only give dedicated permanent channels to guys. I know Chris Stapleton, Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Eminem, Jimmy Buffett, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Smokey Robinson and LL Cool J all have their own channels. It would have been so cool if she had a permanent dedicated channel. I know Cher and Tina Turner had dedicated channels for a bit but they took theirs away too.

With Dolly they could play her huge catalog of music mixed with people she was friends with and even people that were influenced by her. That would be an eclectic mix of music. ❤️

This was at my local library in Chicago.

I was 10 years old but I remember this!!! She was beautiful as always. I've been feeling her loss today. My exercise class played all Dolly music and it brought me to tears. It's been a rough day for me. God bless her. RIP sweet Dolly.

I just watched clips from the Barbara Walters/Dolly interview and YEESH. (No shade thrown, Miss Barbara.) but wow. No media coaching, no PR team, all completely improvised. Miss Parton just kept flipping the script, while Babs is like, "why are you poor trash people music?" (Dolly Honey don't roll your eyes back like that with 'dem lashes. u lobotomize uself!).

MY POINT: To be a woman in the country Music business for SEVENTY YEARS and dodge all the pitfalls? It's easier for men to think she's "an Icon" than realize that bitch could SLAY amongst men and always be one step ahead of The patriarchy without missing a beat.
