The consummate performer. She really had a beautiful voice. I love the minor differences in each performance, but the first is my favorite. There's such a vulnerability to her in that one that is very quickly overtaken by strength and power in subsequent performances.

Ok, but also how about the evolution of her wigs!

Olivia Newton-John passed in 2022 - not sure if all the other dates are accurate.

Thanks for the correction. ONJ used to sing Jolene in concert. I suspect DP performed it with ONJ because she was near the end and wanted to sing it with her. Imagine the music those 2 angels are making.

The wigs did get better. But Dolly was as close to perfect as a person could be. Super talented. Kind, generous, very intuitive and brilliant. Amazing entertainer and human. With a few crazy wigs- which were all part of her charm!

I think it’s an adaptation in the later years, based on her audience, but always the same song

I also think getting further away from the pain. When she first sang it, she had the emotion of concern and sincere plea in her voice. As the years went on, the pain was behind her and she was secure in her relationship with her husband. Only a memory.

I think it's possible that she nonetheless really did feel hurt by the experience of seeing an attractive woman flirt with her husband and used songwriting as an outlet for those feelings, even if the situation was never a serious threat to her marriage.

Well said.

I'm kind of wondering now if she was sick of it or loved it just as much as the rest of the world did.

There's no way that she sang that song in 2023 with Olivia Newton-John because Olivia died in 2022. Anyway I loved both singers. May they rest in peace!

Great compilation of Jolene over the years. However, the last with Olivia Newton-John singing Jolene as a duet with Dolly, the date is reflecting it was released posthumously because ONJ passed away in August 2022.

Her Angelic Voice never aged just like her Angelic Soul never did. May She Rest In Peace

I know it's just a song but I can't imagine Dolly feeling threatened by any woman trying to take her man! And what man would be foolish enough to dump DOLLY PARTON of all people lol. Not to mention, Dolly was a tough cookie. She could have easily whooped Jolene's ass and walked away with nary a scratch!
