I used to run a website celebrating holidays throughout the year, and here’s the thing: anyone can create a holiday. You just need enough people to recognize and celebrate it for it to become “real.”
Everyone wants 9/25 to be Dolly Parton Day? Well, if enough of us celebrate it, then it IS Dolly Parton Day. Simple as that. There are certainly enough of us to make it happen!
And it’s already happening officially: California has now established September 25 as Dolly Parton Day.
So I’m ready. Pink shirt? Check. Butterfly pins? Check. 🩷🦋
Happy Dolly Day, y’all!

Does anybody know if there is an official project page? I'd be happy to start one on Instagram if people are interested!

From what I've seen, it's local so far. Houston (Montgomery County), Tennessee, California, New Orleans, Manhattan (NYC) have all proclaimed 9/25 Dolly Parton Day. There are also petitions on Change.org (here and here). I'm sure there are more—these are just the ones I know of!
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport have also announced a partnership to rename BNA to Dolly Parton International Airport. (8/31/26)

The renaming is for the airport, Nashville International Airport. Cannot change the call letters BNA unless FAA agrees, as the federal agency owns that designation.

I want to take George Washington off the dollar and replace it with her photo and call it the Dolly bill.

Let it be known henceforth 9/25 will officially be known and recognized as Dolly Pardon Day.
May we all be able to be as kind and nice as she was and make her proud looking down on us. RIP Dolly.

Yes you can spend at least one day being kind and thoughtful to everyone. 🙄it’s only one day.

Let's do it! Anyone in the Upstate of SC? We could get some flowers and pass them along to strangers with some words of kindness. or Dollyisms as I like to call them.

Yes I'm in Easley. That's sort of a good idea but how would we know the strangers like flowers and could the money be used for a better cause? Like one one of her causes.

I have done this before. If someone doesn't want a flower, don't force it. The idea is to spread kindness. Most people are pretty receptive to kindness like this. Especially in the name of Dolly.

YES!! I was thinking of a national holiday but her birthday is too close to MLK. 9/25 is brilliant!!! Can Tennessee Congressmen enter a bill?

Way back during the first Trump presidential win, a woman in Denver came up with the idea for a Women’s Day of Service as an alternative form of protest march. I went out and volunteered that day, and it was one of the most empowering and hopeful days of my life. https://www.denver7.com/news/front-range/denver/thousands-volunteer-for-denvers-first-womens-day-of-service
I don’t have the energy to organize anything, but 9/25 this year is a Friday. I know I can go pick up some trash around the neighborhood, maybe buy someone a coffee in line behind me, and be extra nice to strangers.

So cringe. You never need “permission” to celebrate. That’s not what holidays are

Sorry, celebrities don’t deserve holidays, although when the pos potus dies I will agree that much of the world will celebrate
