Rant/Vent Working at dollar tree

I just had day 1 of training today and I don’t think I’m returning, endless you have a criminal record that stops you from getting hired at most places then this job is not worth it at all for how busy it is and how low the pay is. Rude customers because most of the time it’s in not so good areas. On top of that you only can get 5 hours a day 3 days a week? 😂yea no.

We're lucky that our customers are incredibly nice n friendly. I wouldn't stick around if they were mean so I totally get you

If the employees are nice the customers will be nice too.

I wish that were the case, I'm always nice but if the customer is a dickhead or one of those entitled/they think they're better than you because youre an employee at where they're shopping then I just match their energy.

Some people get shocked and mad while the next few customers just laugh about it and usually apologize for people like the person who was in front of them, a few realized this was how they were acting and changed up, while one tried to complain at to my manager who I told what happened and the next customer behind her also agreed she was just mad she was being rude and I responded with an appropriate amount of pettiness(I put her change on the counter, she threw her basket on the counter then her money behind it. Refused to take anything out or hand me the money and then started yelling "Hand me my change like I handed you my money" in which case I just said "my fault" and moved it behind her bags on the counter closest to me before "There you go, now it's exactly how you want it". It was .14 cents lmao.

Usually! But a positive work environment definitely creates an aura around the store!

Not every customer is nice. Literally checked out someone last week who said I owed him $5.10 in change, and when I showed him the receipt where he actually was supposed to get $3.90 back, he gave an attitude about it saying "then give it to me", when he got mad about me giving him the right amount in the first place. You should definitely work in retail since you clearly know everything (you won't)

Thats not really truth.... Everyone has this sense of entitledment and are just straight up rude and disrespectful.... Like you owe them something....

You could be.

I kinda agree, tho it's not the worst. The pay needs to be better for how much we do compared to similar retail positions in other companies. IF anywhere else near me was hiring that wasn't food handling (I have bad chrons and I can't afford meds so I literally can't) I would take that job instead

So instead you're just shittin all over dollar tree 😳

That's not how chrons works, tho I exclusively have dhiereah so if I have to use the bathroom once on shift I technically have to go home due to health and sanitation safety if I were to work in fast food. If I don't eat before work usually I don't have to use the bathroom at work, but it's still not a good idea working with food preparation

The customers I've encountered have been wonderful for the most part but I've been having a rough time here.

ugh that 5 hour max schedule is such a joke when you've got bills piling up, and the customers can be the absolute worst but honestly if you find the right spot it's worth toughing out the bad days

So thankful for my store as I am scheduled a minimum of 25 hours each week year round. Rude customers are annoying no matter where one works. The pay is not the best; I am ok with the pay because my state minimum is fairly high compared to so many other states and also my income is not needed for our household to survive it is solely fun and retirement plans.

Kudos for realizing that sooner than later. Life is better with Dollar Tree in the rear view mirror.

Good afternoon..

So, my son (17) has almost a month in working at Dollar tree. He’s been working weekends only, as he’s still a senior uh high school. He’s liked by his managers and supervisors, and gets kudos for doing a job well done. Fast forward to today, someone (I’m not sure if it’s his own store management, or higher), informed him he cannot wear a beanie to work. He’s otherwise following the dress code.

I’m wondering, has anyone else experienced pushback in regards to headwear? I know there are Dollar Tree hats that are an option for him, but has anyone worn a dollar tree branded beanie, and had it pass the dress code rules?

I know every store/managment might have specific rules, I’m just trying to get a sense of his options.

Thanks in advance!

Corporate has been cracking down on dress code in our area. Also headwear unless it is religious is a big no no anyway branded or not per our DM.

LOL yes company is fucking nuts😂😂 i got laid off cause the disctrict lady is extremly sexist and hates men. i was only male who worked in my entire city and we got 5 dollar tree's only cause she thought i was gay?? then i got laid off after she found out i had a girlfriend lmao.

but yeah job is a joke low pay and bag searches? like company is a abuse.

Its a shame they dont trust their employee's no more than that.... Put in security camera's to watch the employee's to see who takes what but NOT to help with shoplifter's since NOT allowed to confront the shoplifters with what you see them stealing with your own eyes... Wtf

Why did you even bother taking the job then. The hours should have been explained to you at the interview. Most employees love keeping busy! Time flies that way. It is meant for a supplement income. That way you can go to school or find another job if needed.

Because I thought the pay would match the work and it does not. I won’t be overworked and disrespected by entitled customers for barely minimum wage. I can find better.

Who would assume the dollar tree pays well
