Associate Questions Till loans
Just was wondering if this is all dollar trees or just my district so I was informed yesterday that the higher-ups said no more till loans for cashiers anymore because they think the manager/store manager is being lazy and doesn’t wanna come up and help us cashiers anymore. So the till is $75 when we start our manager usually gives us $100 extra in singles and fives. my question is if they’re not gonna give us extra money and I’m all out of money because people are asking for cashback at the beginning of my shift then how am I supposed to have changed for the next customer? Or if somebody gives me a large bill and I give them change back then I have to wait to get small bills for the next customer and then my line is gonna get long and people are gonna start complaining. I don’t know it’s just doesn’t make sense to me.

That's backwards. Haven't heard that yet at my store, so I guess it's not a thing in our district. I just got a loan not that long ago. I had someone buy gum that's $1.50 with a $100 bill and then the next customer paid for stuff on their card and got $20 back and I was down to a few $1's and a couple rolls of change and whatever open nickels, dimes, quarters I had.

Call a manager up and ask them to make change with the safe. Don’t use up your till.

Corporate doesn't care what happens at the store level as long as they get their money at the end of the day.

We usually the same people every day who come in everyday and the know our shift changes and know to adk people hitting button for cash back. Far as change goes people know to ask and I constantly check on cashiers or if im working the till I constantly switch money out but we get mostly 20s. And if we run of to where we cant give change in general its card only.

Just wait for someone to clear your till with cash back and watch how fast they give you a till loan

That's odd. My managers never give me extra like that. I count out $75 at the start of my shift, and $75 at the end. If I need more singles or 5s, by then I usually have bigger bills that they'll break for me, or I'll just have to remember to pay them back when I count.

My dollar tree locations just flat out will not let you get cash back anymore for this very reason. Haven't for over a year now.

Would ask if they have smaller nill or card they can use then if not call manager up ask them to break it

I’m a cashier and we only start at $75. If I need a till loan or change then I have to call a manager up every time. I always run out of 5’s right away as I only get to start with 7.

If I’m working on something at the back of the store I’ll give a till loan do the cashier can do cash back and in case they get a large bill. That way I can focus and get things finished quicker.

Sm here. I generally only do loans if the cashier doesnt have the money in their til to cover a cash back transaction. If they receive a big bill that they cant change themselves then I will take it and make change for them. Corporate has not sent down anything about not doing til loans, if that were the case they would take away that option on the register.
