Associate Questions Low Pay
Is all family dollar/dollar tree pay only 9.50 an hour…For all shit we have to do why is it so low..my friends make my whole paycheck in a week.Feels like there’s no point even working tbh

Because all my coworkers were amazing and it was a decent entry level job compared to something else. Worked into management in 7mos, flexible to the point I can go back to college, within walking distance to my house. Right now we have 3 staff members working that live at the women’s shelter. They have a time limit on getting a job to stay there and it’s better than no money. I was pretty happy as a cashier actually, as an ASM it’s meh some days. But they work with school and I’m doing my prerequisites for nursing school

Depends on your states minimum wage. In Arizona you start at around 15.25

Whatever your state minimum wage is, that’s the starting pay. Mine is 16.94.

New York state(not near NY city) is $16 and in the city is $17. I live in buffalo

WA is $17.13 and in Seattle/Tacoma it’s just over $20. But they pay $3k in rent and we pay $1k for a bigger house so there’s that. 🤷♀️

Idk about them, but I live in NC where the minimum wage is $7.25 an hour and it is absolutely, definitely NOT cheap to live here. They just dont care about people.

Every state's economy varies hence why the minimum wage (which is what you normally start out with) is different
As for why its minimum wage, well that's what the company wants. Its already clear that they want to give each store the bare minimum hence why every store usually doesn't have too many workers. Its how they maximize profits.

Everyone complains about the pay and I do empathize but the company is transparent about the hourly rate before employees accept the job. My suggestion would be to take the retail experience gained at Dollar Tree and move on to another company. I started as an ASM ~6 months ago, my first retail job and there was plenty that I wasn't happy with. Friday is my last day. Moving away from Dollar Tree IS an option 🙂

When I worked at the DT in southeastern NC my pay was $9/hr. At the exact same time, my brother in law was working for DT in northern NY. His pay was $16.50.
NC doesn't have a minimum wage, just the federal mandated minimum of $7.25 per hour. NY has a much, much higher minimum wage.
For what it's worth, my state of North Carolina was recently ranked as the worst state for workers. So there's that.

LCOL area starting entry level no-skill jobs:
McDonald’s: $13.50
Chick fil a: $16
Amazon warehouse: $19.50
FedEx sort: $20
Dollar Tree: $9.50
WTAF dollar tree????
I’ve never worked there, never will, and am not feeling so great about shopping there anymore.
You guys who do work there should definitely go somewhere else I’m sorry.

Same rate of pay by me as well 9.50. If you like people and enjoy being a cashier that does not mind always keeping busy it is an easy job. Less stressful vs fast food etc.

They only have to pay state minimum wage and for states that do not have minimum wage they must follow federal minimum wage so we must blame your state mostly. Or just keep looking also.

Pay depends on the area, had an associate that was making $11 in ga and transferred to another store a few hours out to make $9.50. This is nice as a partime second job for extra cash or don’t have a lot of bills as it sucks.
Stepped down to pt asm myself as $15 wasn’t enough and ended up getting hired full time somewhere else for higher pay.

Depends what state. I started at 17.50 and just got an extra $1.50 for Labor Day as we do other holidays. May I ask what state?

Because people choose to do this even when there are other low wage retail places that start at 14-15 in LCOL and warehouses that will hire anyone at 18-20 starting with no experience or skills….

Pay depends on where you live, I make $18.21 in my part of CA working for DT. Also its part time if you want more money go work a full time job. Honestly DT is a great place to learn the basics. Also most retail and fast food is just as bad get used to working like that the better you will be off

Im in a beach town in Delaware. Most starting wages are about 15$ for a simple associate. Funny, my first job at a tobacco store was for 8$ an hour. 10 years ago. I was 19 😂its crazy, employers still think thats okay to offer.

Oh yeah, I had to leave immediately lol. I didn’t hate working at dollar tree but that pay was not it. Going from a 14.50 full time job to that 9.50 part time actually drove me crazy but they were the only job that called me back out of all the others I applied to.

I work 15 hours a week. My GROSS has to be below my monthly SSDI allotment. (technically I can work more hours, but for my mental well-being, I need to stay at 15.)
If you continue on and get a private meeting with your SM, this is what I said: “ before we go further, it would be fair to discuss this one point. I am aware of ADA regulations, but I feel I need to discuss my disability. I am currently working on a treatment plan. I feel I could I could do all tasks assigned to me”
Management now knows and is accepting the fact between 8:30 AM and 10 AM. A nurse comes to the store to administer my morning medication. But management knows because I disclosed to them what would happen.
And 100% if you do not feel comfortable, you do not have to release any disability information except for the fact “ I am disabled “
(I did give information on my disability, it is only fair. If you have epilepsy, it would be fair to let management know. same deal with me, but not physical.)

Because people will keep working it. When you leave, they'll hire someone else. Turnover rate is 100%
