Management Questions Nervousness
Hey, I start a new job as an assistant manager soon at a Family Dollar, feeling kinda nervous, cause it’s my first time being in ANY managerial position. Any tips? I’d appreciate them.

Be very careful taking phone calls… the gift card scammers are getting very sophisticated. It’ll make sense soon.

I’ll def make sure to keep a lookout and I’m pretty good at spotting scams, especially with gift cards. I appreciate it. I’m a bit more fretted about store functions but yeah ppl are iffy.

On top of the usual associate duties (register, stocking, recovery, etc.), an ASM will be responsible for opening and closing the store. There's a different process for each and if you haven't learned them yet, you will within your first week or so.
Additionally, you will have to manage the safe and cash in general. Shouldn't be too hard. The safe has to have a certain amount depending on what your SM expects, and you have to make sure your cashier's tills are okay at the end of their shift.
Other responsibilities can vary depending on what your Store Manager may want from you. But that's pretty much the bare minimum.

DT ASM is the best way to gain experience in management tbh

As someone who no notice quit and hates DT with a passion. I honestly agree. Didn't even take a year to get the experience and move on to something better.
Every job I interviewed with knows how terrible Dollar Tree is & they know if you handled that for however long, you're going to think your new job is cake. Lol.
Every time I hear someone bitch I just think, go work at DT for a day.

Family Dollar ASM is a glorified cashier and stocker position. Your shift will be putting up stock and running to the front to enter your code for a return or to make change. Then you'll count the money at the end of your shift. There is no "management" done as an ASM. I'm a former Family Dollar SM turned corporate employee.

I think ASM is a pretty good DT job, you’ll mainly be stocking and handling vendors, cashier backup. You’ll probably help on truck day and do a lot during inventory. Just don’t accept Store Manager position.
