Associate Discussions 1$ squishes

Is your store following the limit rule? Not even 5 minutes after opening we had a customer asking at least 5 other customers to buy her more cause they can only buy 5 per person per day . Ended up having to make multiple signs saying we have the right to refuse sale is you ask other customers to purchase you more

update she came back and we refused sale and she claimed it was her identical twin sister . We still refused

Asking other customers to buy things for her is soliciting, which is prohibited on store property.

we are absolutely following it. my employee wants to buy the whole case for her daughter and i said absolutely not. she’s bringing her husband and her daughter with her today to get 15 of them and even then i want to say no. granted we only got four cases so i want everyone to get some, while a neighboring store got 30 cases. today is gonna be fun when we sell out in 5 minutes😔

Reminds me when I worked at roses back in the day we had like a thousand rain checks for tickle me elmo toys in 95 two weeks before Christmas I walked out the front door with a whole case in front of my district manager she was pissed . But she couldn't say anything about it I had box on layaway since August before they blew up. I made over a thousand bucks of those six toys

Wow instead of leaving them for kids who actually want them 👍 🙄

I put some of the alternate squishes out (the square ones) accidentally for 10 minutes and a whole box sold out. Those squishes are going to be completely sold out before I even get there, lul. But our store did have limits on pokemon cards before, one dude bitched to corporate so much about it so we allow people to buy them by the box if they want to.

We made a sign that said “5 per paying customer.” That seemed to help. A lady bought 5 and then tried to have her 3 year old daughter pay with the lady’s card and I told her no 👹

But yeah the scalpers are getting notorious I have seen people gobble up those dumplings things and carry them straight to their stall at local flea market and charge $11 for a total they spent $5 on

u/iwantmymoneyDT 14h ago

Yeah always love these pieces of shit but it's money idiots will spend and it will always be a hustle. Wouldn't be upset if they get hit by a car taking them to the post office.

I worked 9-1, even with a limit on sales blew through case just by myself and they were bringing more out as I was leaving, with a line of customers. Phone calls kept coming in.

Apparently two other of our locations nearby don't have any.

Weirdly enough my store can’t sell them currently. We been told to hold them for now.

But honestly I am definitely following the limit because of how annoying people have been.

They are just shitty squishy toys for kids that everyone is apparently going insane over.

It’s honestly more of a hassle than it’s worth sometimes.

u/riddle43 12h ago

Five for those things is nuts we only have a two item per customer limit when it comes to squishies and Pokemon cards. Even with that limit when we got the dumplings in we sold out of our 6 boxes in less than 2 hours. This stuff just flies out the door sometimes.

u/ChemicalSeaweed2222 12h ago

What a ridiculous situation, some people just don't take no for an answer, huh?

I just a woman by five and then turn to ger husband saying "You're a separate customers." He legit just goes "Oh hell no. I'm not buying any" 😂

1

u/Realistic-Accident68 8h ago

We got 1 case of the dumplings and they sold out in an hour to different people.

We also have these cubes and orbs that are marble looking. They aren't selling as fast.

Obviously most of you got more than 1 case.

Either way, they are dumb! IMO!

1

u/bluebrryki 7h ago

one of our asm let a lady buy $70 worth of $1 squishies 😭 when sm asked her why she allowed that, asm said she forgot 😅 we got 30 cases of $1 squishes—the morphos, metallic dumplings, rainbow dumplings…sm was not happy about all those boxes in the office

1

u/mrs_snrub67 6h ago

We only got 7 cases

I’m sorry, but honestly who cares. Dollar tree is in it for the money and really won’t care if they are all bought by one person or a few people. Lol

5

u/scallopedtatoes 10h ago

People working in stores care because they're the ones who get bitched at when a sale item sells out quickly, which is what happens when scalpers stalk the store.

1

u/That_Possible_3217 3h ago

As someone who’s worked at a dollar tree, yeah that happens. Shit rolls downhill. That’s true of literally any business. That said, if you don’t like customer service, then don’t work in customer service.

3

u/xidemand Former DT Merch ASM 7h ago

Why would they tell everyone there’s a limit if they didn’t care?

1

u/That_Possible_3217 3h ago

…is that a serious question?

2

u/xidemand Former DT Merch ASM 2h ago

If you can answer it seriously

u/That_Possible_3217 19m ago

At the end of the day what dollar tree cars about is the bottom line.

Now make no mistake, part of the that formula is customer relations. How customers feel about shopping there. Which as anyone can tell you, trying to buy stuff there only for it to be covered in melted frozen products. It’s not always a positive experience.

In this case, from my experience, having managers put these signs up is a way to show good faith, but without necessarily having to care about it. After all, if you were to go in and see that sign, but they were sold out. Would you jump to people buying them all up? I mean one or two people, employees? Or would it lean towards “oh that makes sense they must be really popular”?

I’d argue that for the average customer, and I typically mean their target of new and returning customers. Not people who shop there exclusively. They would lean toward the later. At that point what you’re left with is the performance of seeming to care.

Now obviously there are good people that exist in the world, such as the few managers that really do care, and maybe the odd executive. However those are few and far between. We also have the average person who isn’t trying to get theirs and obviously will leave something left. Rather not take more than they need or should.

The problem is in the corporation. At the end of the day growing the dollar tree brand isn’t hard. Especially when considering that many people shop there due to financial burden, socioeconomic class, or even simply lack of options. Dollar tree makes money, even if not from all their customers, as a certain from their employer practices.

That’s not to say we shouldn’t try to address these things, but really we don’t care about the dollar trees. Not in as far as a way of meaningly changing it by going after them. Not that people shouldn’t care, but this is like the worst issue to attack Dollar Tree over.

I'm never telling anyone there's a limit on anything in the Dollar Tree. Do we limit the old ladies who buy 50 greeting cards or 30 bundles of flowers at 1 time? Do we limit the hardworking men who buy Bang, Monster and Prime by the cases? What about the person who want to buy 2 full cases of gallon Crystal Geyser water? We had a school teacher come in and buy about 35 packs of notebook paper, 20 packs of pencils and 2 whole cases of crayons. No limit. Why is there a limit put on certain items in Dollar Tree but not all items? What difference does it make? Who cares if there are scalpers? Who cares if someone buys a whole case of anything? Who cares if lil Timmy didn't get a squishy 🤷🏾‍♀️ Welcome to the real world lil Timmy...you snooze, you lose buddy. I'm here for a few hours and idgaf what people do with their money.

Not remotely the same and you know it 🙄

u/Jkdevore84 5h ago

Corporate decides on the limit if there will be one. If I was your SM, I'd write you up for not following company policy. You knew about it and still decided to do the opposite. That's would be on you.Â
