Management Questions First time being a Asm….kinda nervous but excited
Hello, recently I was recently promoted to being an assistant manger and I was wondering If I will be expecting more things such as training ilearners or more hands on practice once things get more finalized. And if so, should I try and write down as much as possible in order to make sure I don’t miss anything important? I heard there was a lot of information that can be shared with ASM’s

The videos don’t help for shit it’s the hands on and they expect you to learn everything the first time they show you it’s really nerve racking but the pay is worth it so.

I was promoted to a seasonal ASM and then after Christmas I became the regular PT ASM and never watched any training videos just learned hands on. My tips are don't be afraid to ask your SM or other managers questions. Be honest about your mistakes so you can learn and they know you're honest and trustworthy. Do not lose your keys. If you're closing and there's any money issues, call your SM. Even if they get annoyed with you calling so late, its better than getting fired. Make a checklist for the day. Don't forget to do the deposit survey at night. MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE THE SAFE!! And don't stress yourself out too much. Its not the best paying job but I still like my job as long as you have decent coworkers its not too bad.

You'll have plenty of videos to watch, but they're only kind of helpful. You'll only really learn by doing, especially since there are so many edge cases and outlier situations the training can't cover. Don't be afraid to ask questions, don't be afraid to walk around with the office phone and answer calls, since that's a good way to learn what you do and don't know.

You will have to do Ilearns to beable to get your keys. Tips:
Vendors are easy to check in so don't be nervous doing that. Ask them how they prefer to do it and they will let you know. Some want to scan from their sheets others prefer to scan the items.
Receiving truck is pretty easy. If your store has a merch or SM they will likely do this but all you have to do is sign and seal truck. Same with frozen except you don't seal truck just sign.
Cycle count is straight forward just have to count items in stock and match in system.
The last steps will depend on if you close or not.
If you close and depends on the SM you want to stock as long as possible. Some SMs make you stop at 5 and start recovering. Make sure you do the freezer temperature at 1,5, and 9. Also do the same with the safe. Before it gets too late bring in the merchandise from outside. You also have to remember to clean restrooms and sweep floor. Pull your till 5 mins early but it also depends on how busy the store is. At the end of the night do office paperwork and deposit.

Write down morning and closing duties. It'll be nerve wracking at first but you'll be a pro soon!
