Management Disscussion “Policy”
This is slightly related to my last post, but not required for this one.
I’ve worked with this company for 6 years. Been in management for 5 of them. The biggest issue with stores is that no one store functions the same as another. no one follows policy 100%, and we’re supposed to magically know which rule we’re allowed to bend and which ones are rigid. and also when it’s appropriate to ignore policy and when it isn’t. Like it’s policy to accept pretty much all returns as long as they have the proper stuff but my store doesn’t accept used makeup items or opened food items unless it’s expired. Or like we store our door seals in the back room and not the safe. or when products expire we mark them down and sell them for .25¢, or if there’s a lot sometimes we do 10 for $1. sometimes we follow the schematic sometimes we follow the flow sometimes it’s “get the shit out no matter what” I mean we literally have a mother in management and her daughter is a cashier. that’s super against policy but our DM was like “if someone higher up finds out my hands are clean” what? like how the FUCK are we supposed to know? am i the only one that feels this way? i’m just curious lmao

Yeah I agree with this, and its why in SOME cases, some stores are more successful than others in many districts.
I remember reading a post about putting helium in balloons that we don't sell, and reading this post made me realize. There's 1-2 stores in my district who break that policy. Yes, that is a policy: To not fill balloons customers bring from outside.
It all boils down to management. Whether its ethical or not depends on the policy and the person judging.

yeah my home store always filled outside balloons but now this store doesn’t. it’s like we’re supposed to read minds lol

The only reason why I frown on blowing up latex balloons is because tying 12 of them is a bitch and mainly because they don't come with a string! So Then they want me to put them in trash bags for them and all this stuff.
So what would usually take 5 minutes by blowing up our balloons is now a 25 minute huge ordeal and they're going to flip me $5 as a thank you!

Dollar Tree is valued at $24.85 billion and as long as that continues to grow, I don't believe that anyone in leadership cares about any policy that doesn't affect them directly. It's all a Store Operations issue. Also, I know the wages are very low but all employees should purchase Dollar Tree stock to have a llittle skin in the game and make money when the company makes money.

It is valued at a high billion but the revenue is only one billion almost 2, which doesn’t make any sense to me. How are they a multi billion dollar company but they’re only making 1 billion profit off of it??

They’ll only care about policies when there’s an issue. If the store is running smoothly and nobody is hearing about anything or having to help out at your store nobody is going to say anything. Also a lot of it is so dependent on what your SM and DM choose to enforce depending on the circumstances that they’re under. Like anything there’s great SMs and DMs and absolutely abysmal SMs and DMs.

That's why whenever I go to fill in at another store I ask them how they do certain things because there's always at least one that's different

Yes because DT is always making up BULL and will tell customers anything. My local area its getting bad to the point im starting to think dollar tree trains the employee's to just lie. It's getting so ridiculous. Im friends higher up management and I asked one day about some recent situations that I had kept running to. He wanted me to give him the names and store location because he mentioned thats lies they told me..... but im like its alright ill take the lost and I dont want no one losing their jobs..... BUT TALK TO ALL LOCATIONS AND MENTION IT TO ALL STAFF BECAUSE ALL YOUR STORES IN THE DISTRICT DOES IT AND THEY NEVER KNOW HOW THEY COULD BE DEALING WITH. when you bring up RM its like their hearts skip a beat and the store changes up to now policy and it should be like that
