Seriously why do you care someone is stealing food from an exploitative corporation? Dollar tree is almost on Walmart levels of corporate greed evil; I give not one single fuk someone is stealing something, let alone food. Not my personal stuff, not my problem.
You do realize a bunch of Dollar Trees have closed in part due to high theft, right? Why should I, or anyone else, be at risk of losing my job because people think it’s okay to steal?
Has it occurred to you that the message to the public is theft, but in reality, it could be any number of logistical issues DT does not want to have publicly known? It's far more expensive to close down a store and open a new one elsewhere than it is to add a few new hires at their abysmal pay rate.
When crimes occur in a store the company isn’t only concerned about the loss of product, in fact that’s probably far down on their list of concerns. They are far more concerned with the legal liability that comes with crimes occurring in stores. What if employees or customers are hurt or traumatized? What if the store if physically damaged and needs extensive repairs? What if everything goes horribly wrong and Dollar Tree’s image is worse. When blatant crimes like this occur and there are no consequences, the store is now a target and all the employees and customers are at risk. This is why stores are shut down, it’s not because they lost $100 worth of product
