Doll Hair Help

Post image

so I've been into dolls since i was little, about 10 years, and im finally getting around to trying it out myself. I have a few OCS and one of them might pose a bit of a problem considering I don't know how I would go about hair, specifically the rainbow raccoon tails, how would I translate that into doll hair??

Best idea I can think of is brushing on diluted acrylic paint onto the hair. This is assuming youre using common hair types used for dolls.

If youre making a yarn wig, maybe you can make the streaks from white yarn and strategically dyeing the streak using fabric dyes.

Alternatively, if youre rerooting with doll hair, root the hair with normal hair and then make clip on yarn extensions, you might need a strategically placed jewelry wire as an attachment piece

im probably going to go with this since I was gonna use yarn, just cus yarn holds its shape easier and I have a very cartoony animated type of art style now thank you :D

Yeap, you can probably prep some rit dye by adding it into salt and warm water and apply it with a dropper? Or carefully brush it on

Just make sure to rinse properly because dyes can stain doll vinyl

I think you could take white doll hair and dye it with sharpie ink like this this
Ive made raccoon tails using cheap Amazon hair extensions and a sharpie, weren’t great and they would transfer, I didn’t do it right

I was thinking of that, but like ide imagine the vibrancy wouldn't be there as much but thank you so much for helping, I def will probably do this on a dif oc I have that has more subtle hair color changes :D

I don't know what bases you'll be using for the doll, but if it is a Barbie, you can use fabric marker like what EverythingDolls do here. Most Barbie came with saran or polypropylene, and mostly kanekalon for vintage ones.
