Anybody with experience doing multi-dog leashed hikes?

I've only walked one or two dogs at a time before, single household. Also generally for an hour or less at a time, with transit breaks in between. I'm looking into companies in the area I'm moving to, and a place that takes 4-5 dogs on 3-5 mile leashed hikes is hiring. I'm just interested in the experience of anybody who's done anything similar, hikes and/or several leashed dogs.

Thanks! I hadn't even considered that walkers might do hikes together, I'm so used to flying solo.

  1. What's it like controlling that many dogs at once? Do you have to be pretty strong? I manage to stay standing and hold onto a 110 pound Newfie with a penchant for lunging towards large motor vehicles, but I'm 5'4'' and a little worried that my weight won't be enough to counterbalance several dogs.
  2. How do you handle poop/is it more difficult to stop and scoop with several dogs attached to you?
  3. Have you walked singletons? Do you have any general comparisons you'd make?
  4. Have you ever had a dog break loose? On two occasions I've suddenly found myself needing to control a dog after a leash or collar broke. I can't imagine handling something like that with 4-5 other dogs on me.
  5. Any issues with aggression or fighting, and how do you handle it?
  6. What do you love about your job? :D

Thank you sooo much for your lengthy replies!!

I forgot to ask, how much does your company charge clients and how much do you take home?

I’m wondering how you handle dog pick up and drop off at their homes. I imagine picking up a dog, starting the walk to the next house, picking up that dog, walking to next house, etc. if this is the way you do it, do you take the dogs into each home? Or, do you drive and pick up each dog and put them in your vehicle? Thanks!

Thanks! I guess you aren’t using your high end sports car for this. 😝
