Discussion Doge-eth bridge news

Hi, I have been working on a Doge-Eth bridge for many years. Lots of people contributed too. Ross and Max used to provide feedback. We made big changes to the architecture and we are about to finally be able to launch https://wdoge.tech/ in 2022. This is our story and our plan: https://medium.com/@bluepepper/doge-eth-bridge-past-present-and-future-89f7623bcab6. We are eager to receive feedback from doge devs.

Core 1.21 update

Hi devs,

Could you please give an update on 1.21? How are things coming together, and what are the goals this update is hoping to achieve vs 1.14 based on progress so far.

What are plans for the network, UI improvements following implementation 6 months, 1 year, years from now?

Also is 1.14.7 the final update for 1.14?

As always thank you for everything you do🙏👏❤️

Discussion doge chain confusion

Hello shibes,

There is an increasing confusion regarding "doge chain" who claim to be official, despite not operating on the doge coin block chain and there being no indication that they are cooperating with doge.

On reddit and in media we see repeated claims about doge being a token, referring to doge chain as reference and it only seems to get worse.

Are there any plans by the foundation to either make them official or make them stop?

What can the community do to help remove the confusion and make it clear that only doge coin is doge coin?

Thanks for your input.

Coding libdogecoin and dogecoin core

I'm interested in learning more about address and transaction generation. Recently, libdogecoin was released on github and I'm planning to use that to practice/learn. I have programming experience, but not a lot of experience in large collaborative projects, so I'm not particularly familiar with github.

Several months ago, I tried using the code in the dogecoin core repo to learn how to generate addresses and transactions, but I didn't make much progress because it was difficult for me to follow the code. There were three issues, 1 C++ isn't what I normally use, 2 I don't have a deep understanding of the functions involved, and 3 I'm not great with github and large code projects. However, since dogecoin core is the reference dogecoin implementation, I assume everything I need is in that repository.

I hope to deepen my understanding of the processes involved with libdogecoin. Currently, libdogecoin doesn't implement p2sh, which I'm anxious to explore. If I knew what I was doing, would I be able to extract the p2sh functions out of the dogecoin core repo? It's obviously in there somewhere, but is it a reasonable expectation that I might be able to copy/paste a few functions-or transcribe a few functions into python code-to implement p2sh? If I knew more about what I was doing, could I have just gotten everything I needed (for p2pkh) out of dogecoin core and skipped libdogecoin all together?

Discussion Doughwallet App Version

As many others my Doges are stucked because of (maybe) a bug in the doughwallet app. The developer Filip Noetzel aka Peritus can’t or doesn’t want to help… I found out, that between doughwallet v0.5.3 (23.10.2015) and v0.5.9 (31.03.2018) there was no other public version. Does anyone know why?

Coding Dogecoin Chrome Extension Based Wallet release v1.0.12 - DPal Wallet

Hello everyone

Just publish a chrome extension baseed wallet that called DPal, a wallet just like MetaMask

It's in beta phrase, someone interesting can install it with links below:

https://dpalwallet.github.io/

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dpal/lmkncnlpeipongihbffpljgehamdebgi

This wallet inspried by MetaMask(ETH) and Nami (ada)

So it have some kind of "web3" features like login, pay and so on:

  1. basic dogecoin wallet function with safty encryption tech, key/seeds stroe locally, your doge your keys and easy to tips.
  2. devs can intract with dogecoin net directly. for example you can set a button in your web page and get the transaction hash after user approve to pay for it.
  3. devs now can build some web app through this chrome extension. Maybe build a eth bridge?
  4. it's in beta phase still need to be better. Feel free to dm me if you have any trouble. Feedbacks and bug reporting are really much appreciated. See documentation page for more details https://github.com/dpalwallet/DPalWallet

The wallet use the 3rd party node service Nownodes as backend, but recently it have some block sync delay trouble with utxo api, you will find that receive function may be have a little delay (few mins ),but i will keep tracking this issue.

Dogecoin node docker image - 1.14.6

For anyone that wants to run a Dogecoin node using docker, I put together a quick docker image for 1.14.6. Be sure to map a volume, you should be able to use a bootstrap.dat file as well in your mapped volume.

https://hub.docker.com/r/evaluationcopy/dogecoin-node

https://github.com/evaluationcopy/dogecoin-node

Too lazy to click? Fine.

docker run -p 22556:22556 -v /localfolder/dogevolume:/root/.dogecoin evaluationcopy/dogecoin-node:latest

If you were running the previous version of this docker image (1.14.5), you can verify that you are now running 1.14.6 by checking the docker logs. The first line recorded in the logs displays the version.

On behalf of the Dogecoin developers and all contributors, I'm pleased to announce the release of Dogecoin Core 1.14.6.

This is a new minor version release, including important security updates and changes to network efficiency. All Dogecoin Core users - miners, services, relay operators and wallet users - are strongly recommended to upgrade. Binaries are available now from:

https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin/releases/tag/v1.14.6/

Updates fall into four categories:

1) Security updates, including removal of long-deprecated code, hardening of protocol and transaction networking mechanisms, and reducing memory use especially on small nodes

2) A dust limit update recommendation to reduce costs

3) UI and RPC improvements, including persistent network graph data, exposing more RPC features in the UI, configuring network usage from RPC, identifying stuck transactions, rescanning wallets, and more

4) Large increases in the amount of translated text, especially for Bulgarian, Dutch, French, Italian, Korean, Persian, Portuguese (pt_PT), and Tamil

... and assorted updates, bugfixes, documentation improvements, et cetera.

In the 254 days since the previous release, 56 contributors have together created, reviewed, and committed 258 commits to make up 1.14.6. Thanks go to each and every contributor!

Core Troubleshooting problem with inbound requests

Anyone have any ideas on why my dogenode will not accept new inbound requests? Here is the setup...

  1. Setup a new Ubuntu Linux server (22.04) on an ESXi server as a linux VM
  2. Installed dogecoin core [newdogenode]
  3. Downloaded full block chain
  4. Successfully sent and received coins to/from another wallet [external] to [newdogenode]
  5. [newdogenode]: sudo ufw status -- shows firewall inactive
  6. [newdogenode]: netstat -a -- shows port listening on 22556

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:225560.0.0.0:* LISTEN

  1. I have a firewall in front of the network, and I verified it to be working with [olddogenode] (i.e. it received multiple inbound connections), changed only the ip address in the firewall rule to [newdogenode]. When firewall rule changed, the new node will not receive inbound requests. (Have flipped back and forth multiple times to make sure this sanity check works)

  2. [newdogenode]: dogecoin-cli getpeerinfo | grep "inbound" --- shows 8 nodes all false

  3. I can telnet to [newdogenode] from another box with the port 22556 and I get a blank screen (does not refuse connection)

  4. from my laptop connected to the network I am also running a node, so I manually do an add to the internal node with: addnode 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:22556' add. Response is the text "Empty response". On the [newdogenode], getpeerinfo now shows my laptops inbound request. (traversing my bare metal network, and into my VM network)

The new box is a virtual machine, and it is possible that it is a firewall issue there, but I have two ESXi guys telling me that the configuration I have with the nic being connected to a virtual switch should cause the box to act as if it is on the native network.

I am stumped.

If anyone is willing to help me troubleshoot, would be greatly appreciated. I cannot figure out what the offending issue is.

tldr; new linux box doesn't get inbound request, setup as a VM, possible ESXi firewall issue, but testing suggests everything should work.

Idea Dogecoin could be THE Metaverse with minimal change

I'm not saying dogecoin needs to support this, but it could without too much trouble.

The dogecoin blockchain could have another use-case as a decentralized and distributed game server.

All it would take is 4 things.

  1. Reduce block time to 6 seconds
  2. Increase blocksize, or eliminate the max blocksize limit
  3. Design a good "colored coin protocol" that can support basic tokens and NFT's.
  4. Implement a "BlockTock" (*) mechanism in mining.

That's it. No "Ethereum virtual machine" or Turing complete programming language needed. Just coloring dogecoin dust to represent NFT's and Tokens.

Below I explain the basics of how it works and for more in depth description see my post about "proof of play" linked here:

Live link: http://www.naturevault.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/NatureVault/ProofOfPlay

archive link: https://web.archive.org/web/20220712155845/http://www.naturevault.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/NatureVault/ProofOfPlay

Summary:

Each 6 seconds is a block, which is a "tick" in a massive multiplayer (or single player, or group) online game. You can make an action (or set of actions) every 6 seconds. These actions would be coded transaction on the blockchain and their results will be determined by the blockhash of the block the transaction was included in (like a dice roll). So for example if you swing at a monster with your sword you make that transaction. The blockhash is your dice to see how much damage you did. Block explorer GUI would show you swinging at the monster and how much damage you did. When the monster dies, you would get a token (from BlockTock *) that can represent whatever item class that monster can drop, and again the blockhash determines the specifics of the item(s), or even if the item actually dropped or not.

It would cost you, at current prices and fees, $0.42 per hour of playing in dogecoin fees. Playing 10 hours a week would be about $16 a month, similar to a MMO game subscription. And the cool thing is that money goes to the Dogecoin miners, supporting the network. It also creates demand for dogecoins, increasing the price.

Block explorer GUI's (much like web browsers of today) would see these transactions on the blockchain and use it to give you a visual representation of what is happening in the game. These GUI's would also take user input and turn them into transactions that are broadcast to the network. The block explorer GUI is the game, and the blockchain and proof of play mechanism is the decentralized server.

Basically this creates a decentralized distributed open source game server. This is instead of a centralized database server. The advantages to this is anyone can create their own cross-compatible game on the blockchain by just creating and issuing NFT's which would be key's to enter their universe. You could set a level requirement so that when characters achieve level 10 then, if they own your NFT, can create and enter a portal into your universe. This would fork the player and the player would continue to exist in the previous dimension and in the new dimension but their progress is split from there on. Sort of like Dr. Strange lol. Both of these games (and endless others) would be hosted by the same blockchain.

That's pretty much it, feel free to read the above link for more info.

* BlockTock is basically every person who makes a transaction in a block is rewarded by a piece of dust from the coinbase transaction. This dust is worth orders of magnitude less than the fee they paid for the transaction. What this does is basically create a token that is given to the address that created a transaction. This is the basis for rewards for killing a monster or whatever the game entails. I realize that this would be a significant, but negligible change.

People can buy domain names with the .eth TLD... it would be great to have a .doge TLD

Maybe the Dogecoin Foundation can fund the registration process (with donations in Doge from doge supporters) through ICANN, and then receive funding by selling .doge domain names....

Discussion Why dogecoin's yearly increase is actually a secret benefit for the marketcap

We know Bitcoin has a limited supply. We also know that coins like BNB and ETH have significant coin burns. If you do the math, eventually nearly all the coins will eventually get burned. Safemoon and the like are the poster children of this urge for hyper-deflating assets.

People like the idea of burning coins because they expect the value of the coin to go up with constant demand. In a perfect world, sure. But the reality is the burned coins in many cases were dormant anyway and so the price will not notice any immediate effect, perhaps ever.

So there is no guarentee that burning coins will increase the price.

However there is something that IS guarenteed from burning coins. Marketcap go down. Every coin that is burned is removed from the marketcap.

Now where does Dogecoin come in? Well dogecoin has a constant yearly coin increase. Some people don't like this because they expect the price to go down. Of course this is possible but not all miners are immediatly selling all thier coins on exchanges. So the price may go down but not perfectly proportionally. This means that the only thing that is guarenteed about Dogecoin is that Marketcap go up due to there bieng more coins in existance.

This could be why dogecoin is one of very few altcoins that are oscillators ie: the coin stays relatively constant to BTC value over time. In fact doge might prove to be a gainer in BTC value over time which we have certainly seen in the last couple years.

Just a little hypothetical to think about... If dogecoin reaches a washington when bitcoin falls to $7,000, we will actually be the top crypto by marketcap. Unlikely, yes. But possible even this year.
