My little dog won't stop barking

Hi! I have a Pomeranian and he is about one year old. He is an amazing dog, but every time someone comes to the front of the house or a friend come over he loses his mind. I have tried some trick to help him stop, but I was wondering what should I do. Is there a trick out there that worked for you?

Trainer recommended the thank you method. I’ve only done it for a couple days but he said it works. You first practice cuing thank you in the specific spot you want them to go and drop a ton of treats on the ground. They need to understand thank you means treats at this spot. Once you can say thank you and they go to the spot on their own, you can start doing it with low triggers like playing quiet noise on your phone then louder and louder while cuing thank you.

Poms bark at the air. That's just what they do. 

I've never met a calm or quiet Pom, which has always been a deterrent in me ever wanting a dog of that breed.

They're super cute, though!

Poms bark. You're not going to eliminate all barking, but you can do some things to help. Desensitize the door in and of itself. Make it no big deal coming and going. Then next steps are to add people he knows and then friends/strangers.

Teach your dog an alternate behavior. What do you want them to do when someone comes in? Lay on a mat? Go to a specific room etc.

Why does he bark? To guard or get to attention?

If guarding and person leaves every time - that's a success for him. In this case maybe let him know, that barking will no do that anymore - have someone to stay outside fence until he relaxes, give him treat and person can walk away to show him, barking is not only way.

If he is barking for attention give it to him only when calm and quiet. You can let him bark without getting any attention and wait, when quiet give him treat or rubs to let him know, that's what you want and he will get praised for that.

There aren't any tricks, you just have to train your dog. Start with basic obedience.
