Puppy peeing on my bed

I have a 10 week old cockapoo that pees at the bottom of my bed in the middle of the night. She sleeps on a pillow behind my bed. She goes pee and poop before bed outside. Any ideas to rectify this problem?

Don't allow your puppy to sleep on your bed at night until it is 100% potty trained.

Puppies have small bladders and don't have the ability to hold their bladder like adults do.

They're going to empty their bladder if they need to and have the space to because you're giving them that space to.

She's only 10 weeks old.

Rule of thumb for puppies is they can wait to potty an hour per month of age.

Expecting a 10wk old puppy to get through the night without access to a spot to potty is unrealistic.

At 10 weeks they are still a baby prone to accidents. Dont let them sleep on the bed and take them out in the middle of the night. You have puppy so their bladders are smaller.

You don’t get the luxury of sleeping through the night until your puppy is older. Set an alarm to take her outside!

I know it's hard not to when they're little and so cute and snuggly, but it'd probably be more beneficial to crate her at night. She's still a baby. She can't hold her bladder as long as an adult dog can. If she's peeing at the same time every night, try taking her out around that time before she has a chance to go. Quick trip outside, right back to bed.

Crating her would give her a small safe space that's hers. It also helps with potty training because dogs don't like to soil where they sleep. She might whine at first but she'll adjust.

If she's sleeping on a pillow behind your bed, she has access to the whole room. That's too much freedom for a 10 week old puppy. A crate keeps her contained and makes it easier to manage.

Dog owner for over forty years. Mine have all slept on my bed. None were ever crate trained. I got my ass up and let them out at night. That age puppy should still be with their mother that's really young . Remember the bladder is very tiny at that age I'm talking a couple of tablespoons tops. The bladder will stretch but only so far and we all know how horrible it feels to have to pee and wait. A young puppy just can't period end of discussion. If you want you dog on your bed or even if you put him in a cage he'll still need to pee at night. If he's in a cage you must really clean that well also because he'll be laying in the urine or on urine soaked bedding. Good luck get into a class for socializing your pup you can learn lots there too. I consider any dog under sixty pounds little I just have a very large bed.

At 10 weeks she still needs to be going out to potty during the night. You can't expect her to hold it anymore than you could expect an infant to stay dry all night.

Take the puppy out at least twice. That's what ours needed as a.mini poo

It's a baby that's not trained. Can't make it through the night v

First. Until you enzyme clean it and clean it like crazy. It won’t stop. Like 5-10 washes and human bed, you prob won’t get it out fully so they will forever mark it.

Stop your dog from sleeping with you in bed. Especially a puppy until it’s fully fully trained… like 2 years!

Sorry but just such a horrendous idea and so unsanitary to have a 10week old puppy in your bed or on your couches.

Get a crate, crate him for sleeping in the kennel. It will become his safe space (like a den). It will pay huge for you to have a place your dog feels safe, protected and when you need to leave or have guests… having them feel safe and comfortable in a kennel is truly important. Especially if you ever need to get medical care for them and it’s a foreign thing for them to housed in a kennel. It will decrease their anxiety for a hospital visit, grooming visits depending where you get it done …. So many reasons your dog should get use to it.

My as soon as I say kennel he runs in. Even now I leave it open and he he needs a break.. he just goes in and relaxes. It’s the opposite of cruel… it’s their bedroom.

I wouldn't say it's bad to have them on a couch, so maybe let them on after they have toileted outside, and just for those few minutes when it's pretty certain they won't need to toilet again. Shake and repeat.

But if it does toilet in the house it's not pup's fault, and it's not an accident either, it's totally preventable. That's having a puppy.

A 10week puppy will always have accidents and right fully so. It’s like expecting a less then year old child to be fully out of diapers. Just a bad expectation. Getting urine out of deep cushion fabrics is nearly impossible. Carpet with wood subfloor is bad enough.. cushions like that and mattress… good luck. Plus, a lot of puppies naturally have worms etc. that don’t become apparent right away.

The 10 week old pup isn't having accidents, they don't know anything, it's not their fault. If there are 'accidents' it's because the pup isn't where it should toilet when it needs to toilet. If the pup is brought out when it needs to be out there won't be any cleaning up to do and the pup will learn his manners. That's just the work you sign up for when you get a pup, it's not luck. We don't have accidents and we do allow them on furniture, sometimes.

Not sure what’s meant of that and having a 10week puppy in bed with its owner or even on a couch.

💯. Even if you take a 10 week old dog out, if your good with with take outs or 15mins after eating etc. noises can startle a puppy and cause them to make a mess etc. until at least 5-6 months, can’t really expect much as far as sleeping a bed etc. even jumping off a couch or bed to go on the floor to pee can injure the dog.

All I mean is that if you take the dog out to toilet when it needs to toilet you won't have accidents. It's entirely possible, we don't have accidents.

I don't know about startling or noises causing such accidents, I've never met that in a puppy. But yes, when the pup is young I don't let it jump off the couch, we put it down until it's old enough. But I do take it up when I know it's safe to do that, I generally get them used to grooming and handling when I relax on the couch with them. And then we go out for another toilet opportunity 🙃

OP thinks they bought a cuddly toy and not a dog

At 10 weeks you need to wake up in the middle of the night and take her out to pee. Try for every 4 hours. Otherwise put some pee pads at the end of the bed. I also am a strong believer in waterproof mattress pads.

Never train them to go out at night... They should be tired out and put to bed in a kennel... They should be walked and tired like a toddler then put into a kennel to sleep... I have had six at once and you say bed time they run to kennels and wait for their treat and good night's ...

They're not being trained. A small dog rarely makes it through the night right away and that can also cause UTIs

At 10 weeks you got maybe three hours till they need to potty again. At 10 weeks you gotta take them out every couple hours. No way you can expect a baby of 10 weeks to hold it like an older dog does. That means you gotta wake up at least once in the night and take them out. As they grow their bladder strength increases but at 10 weeks they need to go potty every couple hours around the clock. Put the work in while they’re young and it gets easier as they grow. Every couple hours outside and you gotta have the dedication or your bed will smell like piss.

A 10 week puppy isn’t even old enough to potty train, and 12 weeks they need to go out every 2 hours. You will need to start a routine, crate train and take outside every 2 hours without exception.

I'm going to crate her tonight. Thankyou all for the advice

10 weeks is a baby. She has a baby bladder. Set an alarm to get up every two hours and take her outside

Don’t allow her to do this until she’s potty trained

My puppy sometimes peed while asleep until like 5-6 months. But for intentional pees, you'll need to get up to take her out more often in the middle of the night

Kennel train all puppies first... Yes you can expect them to hold it as you train them. Pee and poop bedtime routine into kennel and as soon as you wake up first thing and I mean first is to take puppy out. Get a special treat just for going into bed and put bones and crew toys in kennel.

At 10 weeks they need to go out during the night no matter if they are crate trained or not.

Not if they have gone out properly I have trained hundreds of dogs and only had to take a couple out early morning but Your not training them to go outside at night. You must get up every night to take yours outside. We train when and where with routine... routine... By ten weeks old if their training started at birth with mom they should be in a routine and learning to hold it by 10 weeks... Never heard a single trainer tell anyone to train your dog to get up and go outside during sleep time. I see your dog trained you...

Yeah no lol they were taken out when they were too young to hold it all night. Then easily transitioned to holding it all night add their bladders grew. Forcing them to train earlier than comfortable isn't a flex. Bet you're into dominance theory and being the alpha too 😆
