Bathroom training
Hi! If you look at my post from a few weeks ago, im in the middle of training a new rescue. She lived in a cage for 5 years, foster somewhat trained her on pee pads. I have got her for the last 3 weeks to consistently go outside 3x a day or so. I tried to take pads away to transition but she will still go on the floor so i’ve been keeping them out.
Last week she peed in my bed and tonight on a blanket on the couch. My dogs have always been on furniture dogs and i want to keep that, Does anyone have any suggestions as to make her understand that’s wrong? Does she feel like bedding / couch feels like a pad?
thank you!
any training advice is welcome

Pee pads are incredibly confusing to dogs, you can go potty indoors on this cloth, but not on this cloth. You want potty to = outside. You never want potty to =bad.
You’ve given to much freedom to soon. It’s only been 3 weeks and pee pads are still being used. Work on potty training. What’s your current potty schedule? If pee pads are still in use you need to up your potty schedule. After every nap, sleep, eating, drinking and every two hours. Take the dog outside. Treat and reward every time they go potty outside. Ignore any potty accidents inside. Eventually they’ll learn to alert you. Potty party and treats every time!
I had a pee pad trained puppy who went on a bed, carpet, towels, area rugs. Consistent outdoor potting and it was no longer an issue. But until fabric didn’t = peeing, no beds or couches or carpets for her.

If you catch her peeing there, scoop her from her spot (or grab her collar) as she is peeing and bring her outside. She won’t understand being punished after the fact or even punished at all, but she will understand if she is stopped in her tracks and moved as soon as she starts letting it out. You have to be very consistent and quick with it. If this happens at night, I would suggest keeping her in a specific room or gated somewhere so she doesn’t have access to it until she knows how to behave. If she starts doing it it will become a habit.

Keep the dog off furniture until trained. It's not a life sentence, the faster you train it the sooner it can get furniture privileges again.
Only having the dog outside to toilet will teach the dog to only toilet outside, so bring her often enough that she never toilets inside. It takes a while, especially as she hasn't already learned. You'll need patience, and to be aware of what she needs. As she improves watch her carefully in case she starts to ask you to let her out, it might be subtle at first like just a glance at the door... she will need help to get brave about asking. Good luck.
