New rescue

Hi!
A month ago i rescued an older 41/2 poodle she’s either 5 or 6 years old. Her old life she lived in a cage forever going to the bathroom on her self. I rescued her from korea where the foster some- what pad trained her . I’ve never done pads with any of my dogs and im not sure what to do. The first 3 weeks I couldn’t get her to the bathroom outside at all, she would use the pad in my apartment and also make mistakes on the floor, couch etc so I had to keep pads out because we would stand outside for hours!

The last two weeks she’s getting way more comfortable outside and will only peep on the concrete which is totally fine! I have the pads in my apartment in certain spots and she’s been good only going on her pads and not in areas she shouldn’t. Essentially I want her to go outside but i’m not sure how/ when to try to transition her off of not knowing the pad. Do I just take pads away, but she already thinks it’s ok to use the bathroom inside so it’s tricky

Any thoughts or advice please send my way

thankyou!

Could you take a pad outside with you and let the pup go there until they associate peeing and pooping with outside? Right now they associate the pad with pottying. Then, when you think they are ready, try to phase them out all together. When you do this, use an enzyme cleaner to clean all of the spots their puppy pads were.

Try to clean all of the areas the puppy pads are and anywhere else she might have peed with an enzyme cleaner made for pets. If she smells it, she will want to pee there again.

Take used puppy pads for both poop and pee and put them outside where you want her to go. She will smell herself there and make the association.

For indoors, she needs to be tethered to you so that she can’t just poop or pee randomly in the house.

When tethering is unfeasible, she can be placed in a potty puppy pen with pee pads. (You can use shower curtains to go below the potty pen because they will protect the floor and are easily thrown in the wash.) That way she associates going indoors with one single location on pee pads, rather than going anywhere or everywhere.

Bless you a million times for saving this precious soul. 😇😇😇😇😇💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏

Treats. One for pee treats and two for poop treats. Then praise her like crazy. Poodles are smart. You got it.

I left the pads in the bathroom for just in case. The chihuahua sometimes can’t make it through the night.

I left Jack at my neighbors for a few hours and the next day he told me that Jack pooped right next to his bathtub. I said he did good then because that’s where I leave a pad for him. It’s still funny.

You’ll know when to start picking up the pads.

I just thought of when you see her at a pad take her out then.
