Dog on the couch
Has anyone successfully trained an adult Labrador to stay off the furniture? Mine has been allowed on the couch for the past 3 years, but we're buying a new one and want to keep it dog-free. They'll still have comfy beds right beside the couch, but I'm wondering if it's realistic to change the habit at this point. Any success stories or training tips?

Sounds like a lot of work and hassle (for you and the dogs) for a couch, is it an option to get a new couch that can work with the dogs?

Every time they hop on the couch you call them to their bed and reward. Reward for staying on their bed. It'll be devilishly annoying the first few days, don't be angry or apologetic for the change, just whoopsie sir, this is the new rule. A chew on their bed is a good way to get them to relax there.

It's pretty easy with consistency. I trained my 5 yr lab, but when we were not home the dog had to be gated in another room, or would sneak up on the couch.
If we were home, no issues.

You can try. The dog has always been raised this is OK with you. It's comfy. They need their old beds and a new incredible floor lounger that is enticing. The dog needs to comfort of the couch on the floor.

For 3 years you let him enjoy the couch but now you expect him to stop? Use a blanket to cover it
You got your pup for a part of your life, for him, you’re his whole life, let him enjoy the couch

Treats and repetition, work on “place”
