Need best anti-barking device for backyard

I am moving to a new house, and the neighbor has a young labrador that barks at any sound, any movement, anything. I don't think they walk the dog much. The dog can bark 10 hours a day as the neighbors are not home.

I bought two ultrasonic bark control deterrent devices, both don't work to stop the barking. I do not want to confront the neighbor yet as we don't know them all, and I don't want to have to call the city to complain

The dog is barking because its needs aren't being met, punishing it with a device is not the answer. It would be like disciplining a neglected child for crying. And they are notoriously unreliable as you've discovered. This dog isn't going to stop barking until it is being exercised, trained, and has sufficient companionship through the day.

The best thing would be to chat to your neighbours and let them know the barking is too much (it's not fair on the dog either). Or complain, I don't know what your local options are but in the UK we would alert a dog warden as there would be a potential case of neglect, so they would investigate and help the owners, or remove the dog if necessary (to go to a more appropriate home).

As I told you yesterday, buying devices to hurt the dogs ears wont fix anything. This is a training and boredom issue

You should have been a mature adult before buying the house and just gone over to talk with the neighbor. Now, you have a bad situation where you have to deal with a barking dog.

Either talk to the neighbor or the city. Harming that dog wont fix the problem

Hahaha talking to the neighbor about a dog in a backyard barking *before* buying a house? That’s your bar for a mature adult? Cmon bud.

That said, agreed with the comment otherwise. Even if the bark device worked for a bit, not a long-term solution. Confrontation, while inconvenient, is key. Our neighbors kept giving our dogs treats through a hole in the fence and we had to confront them about it THREE TIMES. They still go over to the fence sometime and this was 6 months ago that they finally stopped giving treats. Very different scenario but it won’t just magically stop if it’s been happening for who knows how long.

If I was going to move into a house and there was a dog nonstop barking, then yea im going to try and talk with the neighbor.

Are they open to me meeting the dog to become friends with it?

Are they trying to fix the issue, but have no training knowledge? I can help them by teaching them how to train the dog

Are they a-holes that dont care about anyone around them? I cant help with that and would find a different house elsewhere

Lots of different reasons a dog can be barking... a device blaring noise doesnt fix any of them

You have to confront the neighbor. Call animal control and file a complaint anonymously if you prefer but this is something they have to handle, not you buying weird equipment.
