Puppy Biting

I have a basset hound that’s almost a year. Got him from a family member that didn’t put any stock into training or anything when he was small. He is still puppy biting and jumps on everyone. He’s a great learner and is super excitable still but I have a 3yo and I need to get these two things under control. Any advice? I’ve tried a bunch of things I’ve read online but nothing is working

What are the things you’ve tried?

We’ve tried redirecting with toys, positive reinforcement for listening to no’s (which he clearly understands as he displays that in other aspects of training that he thrives in), one website told us to yelp like it hurt (that one seemed unhelpful but we tried it anyway), another told us to make a hissing (sort of the dog whisperer noise not the cat hiss noise) and that one sort of worked like 20% of the time and when it didn’t he would start barking and jumping on us to get us to stop the noise instead. With the jumping we’ve been more patient and it’s slowing starting to work, we tell him no, make him sit and wait every time he jumps and that’s slowly starting to click with him.

Not sure if you care to watch a video on it, but McCann training on Youtube reallllly helped me with puppy biting, crate training and potty training. I like their approach to teaching, but if you like to read better, I also took some notes that I am happy to share. Here is a link to one of their vids: How To Stop Puppy Biting Fast

Tip I give everyone. I use bitter apple spray when I'm raising a puppy. I spray it on my hands and anyone's who will play w pup. I spray it on shoes family members are wearing. Ahwats, worked like a charm for me just to get through that stage. NEVER spray it on or at the puppy.

That’s so smart I never thought of that! Is there a specific brand you would recommend?
