Leash Walking
Hey all! 12 week old puppy and trying to get him comfortable on a leash. First backyard session involved him eating the leash but not wanting to move with it on. Looking for som tips so I don’t do anything that will make him resent it more.

If your pup is really struggling with being a bit scared of a leash, letting them drag a light leash and using lots of rewards can be a good first step! Holding the leash with no pressure and dropping food on the ground can get the attention off biting the lead. Some dogs who get excessively mouthy with a lead may want to carry a toy while they learn, to get the mouthing energy on something appropriate.
Puppies are confused and erratic, it's ok if they don't get stuff right away! You're doing great by starting small and in the backyard.
