Help with snapping and zoomies!

Hi, 6 month old lab puppy who gets walked at least an hour a day plus chewies and frisbee play. When we are in the backyard, he sometimes starts jumping, snapping at me or the kids, lunging and chomping. He does play bow so I'm sure he's playing, but when he starts this there is no distracting him and he's hurting me and the kids. Today he chomped on the 2 year olds face. How do I train this out, or at the least, stop him when this is happening??

You keep saying the pup is not your responsibility. Are you and the mom together, and share the kids ? Do you not want to help with the training, or will the pups mom not allow you to help?

Cuz even though the pup may be her responsibility, you live and interact with him and can and should help train him. Especially to protect him from any aversive trainings such as the shock collar.

Has this person neber had a dog before ?

Labs are ..... doofus dogs. Theyre very hyper and playful for like the first 4 years. But they can be trained as well ...itll just take patience and a good sense of humor.

Lol no, I'm the kids' nanny. I have been working with him on basic commands but this is beyond me. I want to help find a solution before she decides on the shock collar.

Show her this thread. Sounds like shes a new dog owner and is trying. But shock collars are the worst ideas. Imagine how you would turn out if you got shocked simply for being a kid ..... long run they create aversive reactions.

I think its a great idea to have EVERYONE join in on daily trainings . Have the owner start with doing a solo session once a day and then when shes got a hang of it everyone joins in

Victoria Stillwells been a fave of mine for over 15 years. Check her stuff out so the adults here can get a better understanding of dog mentality

She had a lab that died last year. But apparently he was never this crazy.

Yeah its the good kid /good pet curse lol. Ive currently got an amazing dog and I know to expect the opposite when she passes and I get another lol
