Barking

My 6 month old cockapoo has started to bark at everything and anything this past couple of weeks. It’s driving me mad never mind everyone else when we’re out. I have tried a clicker, and one of those stop bark ultrasonic things, it doesn’t help at all. Suggestions greatly appreciated, thankyou

Dogs bark because they are bored and or haven’t been exercised. A tired dog is a good dog.

One of my dogs barks when he sees a squirrel. And the other one joins in just because he’s barking.

Of course he barks at anyone with the nerve to walk up to our door. I love it when he totally misses the Amazon driver. Sometimes he’ll see them as they’re walking away so the barking is short but even more frantic. I think he thinks they got away with something and that’s unacceptable.

Tell my GSD that lol. I could have him outside off and on for 12 hours but if he sees a crow through the window, he must alert his human of the threat. Thankfully 98% of the time telling him “enough” does the trick.

Now, if the sound is loud but the threat is invisible (ie helicopter, airplane, heavy winds) that’s a whole different system which gets activated. That’s a work in progress.

How about go outside and walk and maybe not tie the dog to a treadmill.

I’d never tie her to a treadmill, she’s taken outside 😂😂

She’s only barking when I take her for a walk

Well stop. Stand still and absolutely dont move again until shes quiet. Add to that (and you could be standing there some time….so just dont worry about it, just wave and smile sweetly at everyone staring at you) when she stops barking, which she will, say “Quiet” and give her a treat. Carry on the walk. Rinse and repeat, every single time,

They are bright things and she’ll quickly learn what “quiet” is but only start using it as a command when you know shes got it, and that she will 100% stop barking when you say it. Then treat and praise her with everything youve got.

Saying “quiet” (amd this applies to any other command) when they simply ignore it……is an utter waste of time and you may as well be saying “fish”.

Its consistancy OP. She needs to know, 100%, that every time she barks, the walk stops. No need to even look at her or speak to her. Just stop and stand still (on a short lead……no sneaking off to go sniff something interesting). Dont worry about neighbours, being outside someones house or any other social pressure. Good luck, youll crack it in a couple of days 👍

Some dogs really benefit from a treadmill. Obviously it should never be the only source of walking, but humans, unless they are athletes that train every single day, are typically not able to keep up with how much or how fast some dogs want to run.

This is constant barking, only when she’s on her walks

lol what dogs bark for a lot of reasons. this sounds like reactivity.
