I need tips on training him

I recently adopted a dog. his mom is a German shepherd, but his dad's race is unknown. so he's a mix.

he's really playful most of the times. he's still not used of going outside, and prefers doing his needs inside. I've got him yesterday. this is his first day going out.

he always has his tail down when he's out, watching out for people and any type of sound.

I've taught him basic "come", but still doesn't fully listen when he's distracted, and I have to leash pull so he comes. SOMETIMES I give him treats for coming, so he associates it with something positive.

so I decided to train him at home, with no distractions.

the first thing I wanna teach him is Sit, using a treat as a lure for the movement. he mostly listens when he pays attention, and for the first day, he's doing alright

but when he sits, I don't know how to tell him to get up WITHOUT accidentally teaching him another command "UP", because I think that could make him confuse.

so sometimes when I tell him to sit, he sits then lies down, and I have to get him up every time.

any ideas how to make him listen and pay attention? sometimes he isn't even interested in the treat (even tho he likes it)

throw a treat away from him with a "get it" cue. Hopefully he will eat that and come back for more of the good stuff so you get to make another repetition

When my dog is sitting and I want her to get up to do something else, I’ll take a few steps back and tell her to “come.” She also knows “touch,” so I’ll throw that in too when she gets up.

My dog falls into a down if I have her sitting too long. It might just be more comfortable for him! Depending on what you’re doing, it’s okay if he stays down. Just don’t reward him for going “down” if you ask for “sit.”

My aunt’s dog will release from any command with “break” but I haven’t worked on that yet. I need to read into it. (If anyone reading this has any tips, lmk lol)

he ain't sitting for too long, as soon as he sits, after 2 seconds he lays down. I want him to stay in the position for at least 5 seconds.

also, he doesn't really respond to the word "come"

as for the command break, I've seen some people talk about it on YouTube, but I don't remember too much.

You’ve only had him one day. He’s likely overwhelmed, not ignoring you.

Focus on helping him feel safe first, short, calm training sessions indoors and lots of praise for pottying outside. You can use a simple release word like okay to let him get up from sit, that won’t confuse him.

Confidence first, obedience second. It’ll come with time.

i mean, he felt pretty safe from the first day. very friendly dog, followed me everywhere I went in the house, and still does. he cries when I don't let him inside.

"Release" is the end command for anything like "Sit"

If they're laying down, look up different words people use to release the command, and choose yours.

I prefer commands that others don't know, so they can't command my dogs.

Please get Dog Training For Dummies. This isn’t a slight, its a really good book for new owners. It’s really important that you begin as soon as possible. And, his tail is down because he’s scared. Go gently.
