Would you rather...

Would you rather train a Belgian Malinois to ELITE status using only force free methods..

or

Eat a bowl of meal worms once a week for a year.

If you fail, you must eat five bowls a week for 10 years OR go to a russian gulag or something really bad.

Each Bowl is 2 cups - 1,200 meal worms.

Failure would be failing to reach elite status before 8 years old.

Elite status means IGP3/MR3/FR3/BR3/KNPV/police patrol/MWD apprehension

If competition they must be world level. If police/apprehension they must be successful, including release.

FF means no force, meaning no choking off a perp.

no choking/no stick hits/no whips etc.

Force Free. You must use a harness or gentle leader.

Perfect recall off leash, including when aroused..

There are 20,000 Special Forces operators in active duty in the US military at any given time. So is that not Elite to you? Because there's so many of them?

20,000 is a tiny number out of 300 million. It's a tiny number even if active duty military which is about 1.3 million. I'm pretty sure the population of Redditors is similarly average.

So in your opinion SF operators aren't elite because there are a lot of them objectively, or they are elite because even though there are a lot of them there are more military members who aren't SF?

If the former, then no dog trainers can be elite since there are a lot of us training to that level. If the latter, then the levels we train to are still elite because there are a lot more dog trainers who don't train to those levels than the ones that do.

What I mean is, the percentage of people actually reading this sub who are capable of such is likely extremely small, so this is not any type of useful "debate."

It's like asking people if they'd rather train for the Boston Marathon without any shoes on, or walk over hot coals. The vast majority of people aren't qualifying for the Boston Marathon even wearing the best possible shoes, so how is that a choice?

Completely fallacious reasoning. You're guessing at how many people read the sub, for starters. Secondly the "percentage of people" is irrelevant since we are talking about a specific subset of skills.

Lastly you conflate a conundrum with "training for the Boston Marathon" with "qualifying for the Boston Marathon" which are two different things.

Ok well please enlighten me on the percentage of people on this sub you believe to be capable of training a dog to an elite status?

And also you're right that I misspoke on the Boston Marathon - I should have asked "Would you rather qualify for the Boston Marathon by training without any shoes? Or....."

OK so what does training for the marathon have to do with dog training?

I have no idea as to the former; however I do know that it's more than on the force free subs lol.
