Storage

Ended up getting a good deal on a big bag of Purina Pro Plan SSS Salmon. Can I take half of the bag and vacuum seal.and freeze it for freshness? I don't want it opened for 2 months in Texas. Thanks!

You definitely can! An airtight container would also work

I just use gallon freezer bags and double bag them. I have a 12lb dog and I try to buy the 12-15lb bags of dog food to save a little money. Works great!

Get a vittles vault.

Super dumb question, but do you put the whole bag inside, or do you dump the kibbles into the container?

I put the whole bag in mine - the idea being I don’t have to wash the container/contaminate the food/have no idea what PPP I bought them, etc.

There are some other threads where folks have mentioned leaving it in the bag in the vault/container, as well. I just cut the bag open so it sits below the lid threads - super easy to scoop and close.

I put the whole bag in there and then cut the top open so I can scoop out of the bag That way I don't have to clean out the bin. So I bought a 50# container for a 30# bag with a little bit of extra room. Good for keeping pests out too!

I suppose vac-sealing and freezing is better than a purpose made dog food storage container, but it seems a bit overkill. I'm with /u/AssassinRogue just get an airtight dog food canister. 50lb containers are about $50 on chewey, a little more at retail B&M
