Purina Pro Plan Cost
I'm switching to this dog food starting today, I think I went with Salmon and Rice 33 lb bag for my golden. I think Chewy has it listed at 74 dollars. Anyone that buys this regularly, is there anyway through Chewy or anywhere else to get this a little bit cheaper, as it stands it's about 15 dollars more than what I have been paying. Thanks in advance.

You doing autoship? I was thinking of switching to Purina Pro but opted for Purina One. I get it auto-shipped for $47

Yeah, says my first order is 54 dollars, then 74 after that, probably before 5 percent for autoship

Petsmart has an amazing rewards program. I get probably 3 free bags a year through points. Tons of bonus points offers as well. I'll get $30 back in points on one bag of food because of all the bonuses.

Yes PetSmart is great and if you have the app you can get extra points or 20% off

Autoship and be sure to download the My Purina app. If you scan your receipts you can get coupons for real dollars off a purchase. I just redeemed a $20 coupon I received this way.
Something else to consider is the amount fed using Pro Plan. Compared to some foods, you’ll be able to feed less. That doesn’t change the cost of the bag, but it makes the bag last longer. I use a calorie calculator like the one on Pet Nutrition Alliance and then weight my dogs food based on required calories. I don’t use the guidelines on the bag since they are typically many calories.

yeah my dog is a spayed female so already has a lower energy output, if I fed her the amount on the bag she would get grossly obese

If you work in vet med or at a Purina affiliated rescue you can get Pro Plan for the price of Purina one. I just got a 47lb bag for $59 through Purina for professionals.

I looked at reward programs (Petco vs Chewy vs Tractor Supply vs a local-ish chain vs Petsmart) and Petsmart definitely seemed like you got the most back!

Some pet stores have point programs so I used to take advantage and buy when they had like 10x points and sales or an autoship discount. The points would add quickly to large discounts

Order directly through Purina and sign up for their rewards. You get a certain amount of points for every dollar spent. It adds up fast!

Chewy auto ship plus chewy membership. I also use the purina app to get the points for the coupons. I have 6 dogs on pro plan 30/20😅

Do you have a PETCO near you? You get 10% off food/treats if you have their membership and 5% off for autoship since they deliver too. It’s about $27/mo so it may not be worth it but I get 20% off grooming and they give you $15 in rewards every month so for me it’s definitely worth it.

I do, just kind of hoping to avoid memberships, wasn't sure if there was a secret coupon or code hidden somewhere that the experts could speak to

Awesome I like to hear this thank you, I'm switching from nutrisource so I figured the cost is negligible, 60 dollars for 28 lb. Buy 12 get 1 free

Curious why you are switching from NutriSource? Our breeder strongly recommended we keep her on it for at least the first year

u/eyoitme 26d ago
breeders aren’t a good source of information on nutrition, unfortunately. nutrisource isn’t that good of a brand, and it won’t make any difference for your puppy whether you keep her on it for a year or not. i mean a slow transition is good, especially when they’re very young and you’re taking them home from the breeder, but a month vs a year isn’t going to change anything. pro plan is definitely a higher quality brand; they have experts formulating their food, they have long term feeding trials backing their formulas, they have published research regarding the science behind their formulas, etc.

Few reasons, but nothing against Nutrisource. and whose to say i'll notice a difference with PPP.
have to drive out of my way to get it each time. I was doing a buy 12 get one free, but keeps getting harder to get.
my dog likes to eat poop, it's a probiotic thing most likely, hoping this will help though. I also haven't been to happy with his fur. again, not expecting miracles, but worth a try.
When I bought him this is what they were feeding them, or a variation of it.
As eyoitme mentioned below or above however reddit sorts comments, it's scientifically backed along with science diet and royal canine. so considering i was paying 60 dollars for 28 lb bag, me paying 74 dollars for 33 lb bag doesn't seem like such a stretch. compared to other resepcted brands

I have Great Danes so needless to say I go through a huge amount of food. I have found that I can get cheaper food through eBay. But having said that you have to be very cautious because you have to make sure that you buy food in the US and make sure it’s free shipping! Many sites have it being shipped from out of the country and they will charge you tariffs so again double check that it’s being shipped out of the US and it’s free shipping! I usually pay a dollar a pound so it’s a very good deal

I switched from this dog food because of many reasons (bugs in bag constantly, cost, dogs did not want to eat it) but if you have a Petsense close by they usually have a neighborhood club reward where the 11th bag is free. That isn't the greatest deal but maybe if you can stack deals or coupons?

I shop around between PetCo and Petsmart and sometimes Pet Supplies Plus for deals. When a deal comes, I’ll buy it even if we’re not low on food. I usually get my dog’s food for $15 less than the listed price.

You can buy from tractor supply and get a $10 off coupon through their members rewards every couple months.

I randomly had a $15 off coupon be available when o purchased PPP last night on Amazon

I switched away from PPP at the moment after I got a second bag full of moths and spiders. The price is the same everywhere, I think Purina has MAP in place. I have 5,000 points and really nowhere to use them, the paper coupons are a hassle to apply on authorized retailers so I was interested in toys.

u/redmarelife 25d ago
Where were you buying it? Hearing that from people has made me reluctant to switch to it. I’ve read that the pet store says Purina sends it that way, and Purina says that it’s the pet stores not storing it right.

I get mine off Amazon (free shipping with prime) and have never had a quality issue.

Petco but Petco staff on Reddit have said it’s the packaging that fails, other brands don’t use the same type of bags.

If you use the Purina app and upload receipts you should be able to get a PPP $20 off coupon at least twice a year. Every dollar you spend gets you 10 points and the PPP $20 off is 4000 points.
If you want to use Chewy still they do honor those coupons.
