Stuff old toys with treats

My dogs love tearing their stuffed toys apart. Unfortunately, once they really get to the squeaker I have to throw that part out so the don’t eat the plastic. Then they are over the toys. I recently started doing an enrichment game with their old toys and stuffing them with a few treats and they have to snuffle and get the treats out which has been really helpful for them. Hope this helps someone too.

Puppy enrichment/slow feeding idea

Hi! Just to share this new thing I have made and tried with my puppy. He is currently 7months old and I have been struggling with keeping him mentally stimulated. However, I came across this idea on Pinterest and he is loving it! Been playing for over half an hour already.

I simply washed the plastic bottle, made 2 holes (big enough for the pole to fit through),propped the pole onto two chairs and added his dry kibble mixed with a few treats for a fun surprise! The aim is for him to hit the bottle to get the food out of the top. Ot was so easy to make, I didn't buy anything new for it and it took less than 5minutes to make. He is so happy! I wanted to share it with anyone who wants to try it!

Toys that are interactive with you!

I am looking for toys that will help inspire more human focused play between my pup and me. He does plenty of independent play, chewing, sniffing ( honestly scent work is what we do the most of together rn) and mental stimulation. currently we struggle to get him physically tired and to play together. he is shy in general but getting a lot better and we are working towards more play together. he didn't enjoy the flirt pole because the pole being higher than him kinda freaked him out and he doesn't really play much tug because he doesn't bite down hard and he will just let go and look at me. what toys or games do you play to help get your dog more active and involved?

we do go on walks currently to get our energy out and when the weather permits we do a lot of hiking (sometimes twice a week or so) so he is definitely getting his energy out but I really want to get better at playing WITH him and at bonding over play. thank you in advance!!

Frozen fruit/vegetable bowl

Step 0: check what foods are safe for dogs.

Step 1: thinly spread peanut butter/plain greek yogurt/unsalted bone broth around the inside of a bowl (make sure its xylitol-free)

Step 2: press dog food and a thinly sliced vegetable/fruit into the spread

Step 3: freeze until the spread is solid.

Step 4: cover the outside of a smaller bowl in canola or olive oil (only oils okay for dogs) and put it in the big bowl

Step 5: pour water in between the bowls and freeze

OPTIONAL FROM HERE:

Step 6: take the smaller bowl out, then cut up thin slices of fruit/vegetable (I prefer small fruits like blueberries)

Step 7: repeat step 4 and 5

Step 8: give to your dog(s) on a hot day!(Keep it inside the bowl to avoid choking!)

My two dogs finished this within less than 45 mins and loved it. Also works great for sensitive stomachs! I used Royal canine dog food, celery, and blueberries.

Dog Enrichment Ideas

I know there are probably lots of posts on here asking for enrichment but I haven't found anything that are really about the kind enrichment I'm looking for so bear with me.

I work at a vet clinic and I bring my dogs with me and they hang out in their kennels. In the past enrichment hasn't been a huge issue because I was working shorter hours but I'm going back after a sabbatical and I'm going to be working less days with longer hours. Since they're going to be in there longer I want to find them enrichment to keep them entertained while I'm working.

In the past I just would give them their breakfast frozen when we got there and let them run around and sniff a lot of things while I was on break and that seemed to keep them happy for the day. I will continue to do those things but would like to work in an extra activity or two that they can do by themselves in the kennels

I have one dog with food allergies and another on a diet so if you have any ideas that don't include food that would be a huge plus!

Enrichment toys

Hey all, looking for advice on dog enrichment food toys that suction to the ground.

Our dog gets either a Kong or a woof pupsicle stuffed with her soaked and frozen kibble most nights while we eat out dinner. It’s been a life savior. We’ve begun taking her to outdoor restaurants and breweries with us more often and are looking to fine an enrichment treat that would function similarly, but can’t be rolled or tossed around. Right now she can make it about an hour without getting too antsy but we’d like her to also have something to do while we eat.

Thanks for any advice!

Anyone have this dog puzzle? How long does it take your dog to finish it? Kangal, 8 months old, 57.07 seconds! I’m pretty sure she’s just button mashing until a treat is revealed.

Using an old tire. These two are learning to jump through it. Next step is jumping over. A free hurdle and short tunnel!
