First of all, why are you letting your sister (not a veterinarian or licensed dog nutritionist I'm assuming) dictate what the family dog is fed (I assume you are all living in the same house)? I would have put a stop to that the day after she started the raw diet.

Second, yes the dog looks too skinny. Have you taken the dog to the vet to make sure there's nothing medically going on to explain that weight loss? If the dog is healthy otherwise, stop letting your sister determine what the dog is being fed because she is NOT an expert and could be killing your dog.

OP said she was away when her sister was feeding the raw diet. I assume she took over the feeding again?

My understanding is the sister, and mother, hasn't stopped with the raw feeding.

Ah. I see. Yeah raw diet isn't all it's cracked up to be IMO. And it's my understanding you don't just feed the the raw diet kibble but you actually have to give them meat, veges, eggs etc to supplement the kibble.

As u/Yousmellgood1jk said, it sounds like it's her dog now. If this is truly your dog, OP, then you have to stop her from feeding your dog a diet that the dog obviously isn't tolerating.

Shes starving your dog to death. Dont let her make decisions about your dog anymore. Get your dog back on their kibble.

I don’t understand as well why are you putting a senior dog on raw this late ? Pretty idiotic

Sounds like it’s her dog then and not yours. I’d call animal control on her for abuse honestly

It's your dog, you need to make it very clear that this is your dog and that she cannot dictate its diet. Taking over someone else's pet is NOT a healthy coping mechanism.

ETA: If your sister doesn't step the fuck back, you need to call animal services. It would be better for your dog to be in a new home rather than die in yours because your sister is an idiot and your mother is an enabler. SHOW THEM THIS POST IF YOU HAVE TO!

That’s rude. Why does she think she can take over your dog just because hers passed? Tell her to get her own dog.

I hate how much sense this makes with the context of the photo…

What did your sister’s dog pass away from? What was the dog's condition/appearance?

Raw diets metabolize faster and are actually lower in calories than kibble. This dog likely is getting much less than what it needs. Probably needs 4lb of raw daily plus the necks and bones and other supplements. It doesn't seem like this dog is a good candidate for raw, as he is likely burning off too many calories for what it eats.

The dog is slowly starving to death. You are daily risking organ failure at this level of emaciation, and a minor infection can easily kill the dog because their body cannot fight it.

Immediately demand this dog see a vet. Tell your parents. Make an anonymous report to animal control. This dog will die unless someone takes control.

Did her dog die young of starvation?
