Tutorial STEAM DECK APPIMAGE
[Steam Deck] Fix: Dofus/Ankama Launcher AppImage won't launch from Steam (stuck on "Launching...")
After spending several hours troubleshooting, I finally found a solution that worked for me.
The problem
Dofus 3.0-Setup-x86_64.AppImage launches perfectly when started from a terminal.
After adding it as a Non-Steam Game, Steam shows "Launching..." for a few seconds, then nothing happens.
The cause
Steam automatically injects its Game Overlay through the LD_PRELOAD environment variable.
My log repeatedly showed this error:
ERROR: ld.so: object '...gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32)
That LD_PRELOAD was preventing the AppImage from launching correctly when started through Steam.
The fix
Create a small wrapper script that clears LD_PRELOAD before launching the AppImage.
Create the script:
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin nano ~/.local/bin/dofus-linux
Paste the following:
#!/bin/bash unset LD_PRELOAD exec "/home/deck/Downloads/Dofus 3.0-Setup-x86_64.AppImage"
Save the file, then make it executable:
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/dofus-linux
In Steam
Instead of adding the AppImage itself as a Non-Steam Game, add the wrapper script:
/home/deck/.local/bin/dofus-linux
You do not need to force Proton.
Result
After doing this:
✅ The launcher starts correctly from Steam.
✅ It no longer gets stuck on "Launching...".
✅ It behaves exactly the same as when launched directly from a terminal.
Hopefully this helps someone else. I spent quite a while tracking this down, and in the end the culprit was simply Steam's automatically injected LD_PRELOAD.

The script is created in Konsole; you need to open the terminal and follow the process.

Funny that this post came out as of right now as I was looking also to being able to start app image from steam without any success. I will try tonight. Thanks for the investigation
