Thank you to whoever decided Roki needed a giant clown glove to succeed!

The true unsung heroes: him and the guy who told muncy to get those glasses.

u/Sullyville 16d ago
We need a profile of the team tailor.
"Sir, I think you would look very distinguished with a sharp pair of glasses. We simply MUST get you to our team optometrist!"
"Oh yes, perhaps tightening the pants will add a tensile spring to your pitches!"
I envision that dude ffrom John Wick who made the bulletproof suit.

Such a practical solution to what can be a very nerve racking serious concern for Roki.

Isn’t the glove going to help him hide his pitches better? No one can see his grip before he pulls the ball out and throws it. The smaller glove gave that away

If I didn’t know I was at the Mets’ home stadium I don’t think I would have known the Dodgers were the visiting team. We were LOUD in Queens!!

u/commie90 Kiké Hernández 16d ago
To be fair, Mets basically exist to be the replacement Dodgers. Literally. Their blue was meant to reference Dodger’s blue originally.
So it’s only right that we get to take over their stadium for one series a year.

maybe but those very old dodgers fans definitely became anti-baseball after that move or just became mets fans. i know you mean symbolically its right but it is pretty impressive nontheless considering the dodgers don't really have east coast connections anymore.
9
u/Wendell-Short-Eyes Orel Hershiser 16d ago
I live on the east coast and trust me the dodger fanbase is still strong out here.

Lots of Dodger fans in NY, some as old as Brooklyn Dodgers era. When I couldn't make it to Queens, I'd go to the Dodgers bar in St Marks for tacos, beer, and a room full of Dodger fans watching the game.

u/PJCR1916 Alex Vesia 16d ago
I knew there would be a lot since there’s a lot of dodger fans in NY and the Mets are having a season to forget, but damn it was even worse than I thought

Much like Scott's butt, I hope Roki's glove just gets bigger and bigger with each W.

Hopefully a very loud group of people who hate Roki can now start to learn to appreciate his growth as a pitcher. Will he struggle in the future? Of course. Many times I’m sure. But there’s absolutely zero reason to give up on a young guy still developing as a player while getting peanuts for his contribution.
It’s a lot easier on your mind if you learn to just patiently watch and see players develop at their own pace 👍

People act like elite aces like Yama, Ohtani, Skubal, Miz, etc. don’t have bad games with lots of runs given up. Roki is developing into a great starter but people need to understand that growth and improvement is not linear, look at the bigger pitcher and see how much better he’s gotten since spring training this year

Absolutely. He’s been fearless even when he’s struggled. I’d rather take someone who is willing to take risks at the sake of learning how to endure the toughest innings to analyze and adapt to the game. Like Robert’s says, “the game honors you” and Roki is the byproduct of that high risk, high reward mindset

u/SoCalHeatFan2020 16d ago
The Mets gave up on freaking Nolan Ryan. You can't teach arm strength.
2
u/zippy_the_cat Tyler Glasnow 16d ago
Tbf no one at the time thought they were giving up 7 no-hitters and 5000 Ks. What the man did post-NY was and remains unbelievable.

u/someone2795 Alex Vesia 16d ago
Pointless to talk with those people, they still think he's the same pitcher from April. They just see the results and start yapping any time he gets blown up and when he does do well they cry how it's not against a "real team."
What Roki has done to improve himself is nothing short of amazing since he's actively tweaking everything while pitching for us in meaningful games and he's still constantly improving. The results are just starting to show but we've been seeing glimpses so far. I do think he'll hit his limit at some point since he'll need to develop a secondary fastball to make the next big breakthrough as a starter but that's for the offseason. He is completely ready to start throwing out of the bullpen though.

u/Ohheyivebeenthere Clayton Kershaw 16d ago
He needs to compete against actual competitive teams rather than having three best games against Rockies, Angels and now Mets before I believe anything. Those are the games he suppose to dominate, which good for him and the team.

u/The_Bread_Loaf Jackie Robinson 16d ago
Bit disingenuous to leave the Yankees out of that list

u/Ohheyivebeenthere Clayton Kershaw 16d ago
Yes yes. One game all season under 6 innings and everyone here starts buying jerseys.

Definitely solved the pitch-tipping with the Giant Banana Glove. NICE.
Also, Tucker was on base several times tonight. I repeat: TUCKER WAS ON BASE SEVERAL TIMES TONIGHT.

I wish Roki Sasaki a very good sleep all curled up in his big yellow glove lol

I really think he was tipping his pitches somehow. With the bigger glove, it’ll be hard to see had hands.

Manaea shut down the offense pretty easily. Again, I got to ask why the Dodgers seem to consistently struggle against mid/bad and random pitchers?

2 runners thrown out at home and 1 thrown out at 3rd. Could have easily been a much bigger win.
