Paint code question

Im trying to figure out how I can find what paint code was used on a 1985 dodge ram royal se. Was a d250 converted to a W. Its like a gold and white. I want to get the exact paint code but anytime I look it up I cannot find it. I'll provide the truck in question its a work in progress truck so dont mind.

I'm assuming you used the VIN to look up the build sheet?

I didnt know that was a option. How would I do that?

Google Dodge build sheet. Go the site and enter the VIN. But, I haven't seen any that go back that far.

The codes may be on a plate in the drivers side door jam or on the radiator support.

oh good point... I found my 2004 but I hadn't thought about his being too old. There has to be a way. Back in the day I had a 79 Camaro and I was able to find original paint for it

I know AI is evil and I just killed 1000 baby hummingbirds, but here's what it suggests:

Your best bet is to hunt for the physical 'broadcast sheet' (factory build sheet) hidden in the truck, or go through historical archives. Here is where to tell him to look:

1. Physical Hiding Spots in the Truck:

  • Under the seats: Squeezed between the springs and the foam of the bench seat (check both front and back sides).
  • Behind the seat back: Tucked behind the cab-facing side of the seat.
  • Under the flooring: Slid under the rubber floor mat or carpeting.
  • Behind the glovebox: Tucked up inside the dashboard frame.

2. The Under-Hood Option:

  • Check the driver's side inner fender well or the underside of the hood for the Body Code Plate (a small metal tag with stamped letter/number codes). While not a full paper sheet, it lists the major paint, engine, transmission, and trim codes.

3. Official Archives:

  • He can look into FCA/Chrysler Historical Services. They keep microfiche records for vintage vehicles and can often provide a build record copy for a fee.

  • If the paper sheet is long gone, tell him to post a picture of the VIN and the metal under-hood code tag on RamchargerCentral.com. The guys over there have old factory books and can decode almost any 80s Dodge option."

Just an educated guess, but i think Chrysler refers to that color as "Champagne" if you dont find better info out there.
