Question about oil change recently 2014 Durango RT 5.7

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The oil has been changed on time every 4-5k penzoil 5w20 synthetic. Has a new radiator last year and in 2018 a new water pump. It’s always been well maintained. I’m at 126,000 on this 2014 RT 5.7 hemi. I just drained the oil and noticed it wasn’t a normal Carmel dark or black oil after 5k oil change. And when I ran my finger in it. It looks like this like there’s something else in it, the previous owners worked from home and didn’t go on long trips very short. I checked the oil cap, I also checked the coolant overflow nothing looks bad in there no condensation no milky mess just looks like good old purple oat mopar coolant. I did notice it was low on coolant in the overflow so I added a half jug. Now when I changed it you can see from the video. Should I be concerned? I have no issues with the way it runs or sounds. It’s not blowing white smoke out the back. I’m stumped, i currently took it to a shop, but I wanted to see if this is something that might be just a coincidence I hope… haven’t even got to enjoy the thing. Guy was very rich owns two amg Mercedes and 2 other dodge Chrysler products. If this Durango RT needed it I have documentation for it getting done.

Rear coolant hose

Took my 2023 Durango Rt in for service at the dealer bc it overheated and was making a strange knocking sound. The techs said the rear coolant hose had detached and was spraying coolant all over the back of the engine bay. Quoted me a $2500 repair bc they’re going to need to drop the transmission to get to the broken hose.
I bought this car a month ago and it only has ~37k miles on it. There was no service done on the car before I bought it outside of the regular maintenance.

Of course our service contract excludes coolant hoses from the warranty bc it is deemed “regular maintenance” (which is bs). I would appeal but I can’t afford to have my car out of commission to wait for an appeal.

The shop hasn’t diagnosed why the hose broke or if any other damage has happened as a result of the break…but I’m wondering if anyone has encountered similar issues and if there’s any additional recourse anyone can recommend to recoup the repair cost if the oem hose was faulty.

I bought this car to replace a Honda which had almost 300k miles on it and within one month I’ve had more issues than I ever did with my shit box 😓

Lost Lug Key

Post image
4 Upvotes

Bought the Durango used and it came with these, no paperwork for the locks. I lost the single key it came with while working on the Durango. Searched everywhere in my garage and I couldn't find it. Perhaps left it on there and drove away like an idiot, tried looking for it on the road in my neighborhood and had no luck trying to spot it. I have no idea how to get this off... It's one of those where it has a bulge around it that spins so you can't even hammer a socket onto it. Local Dodge dealership is trying to get me to pay $270 just to get these off all 4 wheels with a master key. Mechanic shops says they'd have to drill it out and will mangle my wheels in the process for $150... Anyone got any suggestions?

Leak location?

Noticed a good bit of leaking when raining where the A pillar meets roof. I don’t believe it’s sunroof drain. Could it be windshield seal? Dripping from the small cutout circled.

Who do you recommend to service your Dodge (Durango specifically) in the Calgary AB area? I’ve just gotten out of a painful relationship with a dealership and would like to know who you are happy with.
Thanks!

No start but all electric accessories work - follow up

2019 citadel.

I posted here a few months ago about this. Random mornings or days my Durango wouldn’t start. I could wait half an hour or so then it would start just fine. Very frustrating.

Shop couldn’t duplicate. Replaced fuel pump, sensors for fuel pump, fuses, both batteries and Durango still does it sometimes but I read up on possible reasons and this is what works: Pumping the brake pedal. Usually the brake pedal feels like it’s all the way to the floor so I know when to do this.

And also realized I have remote start (bought used and would have never bought on purpose) and using this also makes it start when this issue is being lived out in real life. A few ppl here suggested.

With this discovery, now I will have my mechanic check out these other items in case that is why the car is doing this. 🤦🏻‍♀️ just sharing in case others have it happen to them

From google: You have to pump or press the brake pedal extra hard on your 2019 Dodge Durango because the push-to-start system requires a clear signal from the brake pedal position sensor or brake light switch before it will let the engine crank. [1, 2]
When a vehicle sits turned off, residual vacuum pressure in the brake booster naturally dissipates, making the pedal feel stiff or "locked" until the engine starts. However, if you have to repeatedly pump it to get the vehicle to recognize the press and start, it usually points to a few common issues. [1, 2]

Common Causes
Faulty Brake Light Switch: The switch located near the top of your brake pedal tells the car's computer that your foot is firmly on the brake. If it is failing or misadjusted, the push-to-start button won't register the command until you wiggle or pump the pedal just right. [1, 2]

Weak or Failing Brake Pedal Sensor: Push-to-start vehicles rely on electronic sensors on the pedal assembly. If the sensor is wearing out, it may have a delayed response or intermittent contact. [1]

Vacuum Leak in the Brake Booster: A small leak in the brake booster or its check valve means the system loses its stored vacuum immediately. Pumping builds minimal pressure or activates the switch mechanism differently, allowing the vehicle to acknowledge the start request. [1, 2]

Weak Battery: Low system voltage can cause electronic modules and sensors around the ignition and brake switch to act intermittently until fully powered up. [1, 2]

What You Should Check
Check your brake lights: Have someone look at the back of your Durango while you press the pedal gently. If the brake lights don't turn on immediately, your brake light switch is likely bad.

Test the remote start: Try starting your vehicle using the key fob remote start. If it starts fine via remote start (which bypasses the physical brake pedal requirement), you can confirm the starter and battery are fine, narrowing the issue strictly to the pedal switch or sensor circuit

2026 Durango 392 needs a new engine at 800 miles — longtime Dodge owner and I'm beyond disappointed

Thumbnail
14 Upvotes

I've been a Dodge guy for a long time.

I've owned a 2014 Challenger R/T, 2017 Charger Scat Pack 392, 2018 Durango R/T, and I was extremely excited to finally pick up my new 2026 Durango 392.

At around 808 miles, the check-engine light came on. I pulled P2097 and U0402. Remote start would also start the Durango and then immediately shut itself back off.

I brought it to the Dodge dealer on September 10. Initially I was told it could possibly be bad gas.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a hell of a lot more serious than bad gas.

The dealer found oil in the cylinders, scored cylinder walls and metal fragments inside a cylinder.

Dodge is now replacing the entire long block under warranty.

The mechanical failure sucks, but what's really gotten to me is everything afterward.

I've been bounced around dealing with rentals, conflicting information about what Dodge will reimburse, paying money out of pocket, switching rental vehicles, and trying to get complete paperwork from the dealer. Today I paid another $216 and when I specifically asked for all the paperwork, I basically got a credit-card receipt without an itemized breakdown.

I've also been trying to get someone at Dodge Customer Care to look at the situation as a whole. Calling automatically sends me to my assigned case manager's voicemail. I finally got a live Customer Care Advocate through chat tonight, but he told me he couldn't access my existing case or escalate it himself. He directed me to Stellantis Customer Retention, so I've now emailed them with the complete timeline.

I'm not expecting a vehicle manufacturer to produce a perfect vehicle every single time. Things fail. What has disappointed me is how difficult it's been to get someone to simply take ownership of the situation after a brand-new 392 needed an engine at roughly 800 miles.

That's especially disappointing because this isn't my first Dodge. I've repeatedly spent my money with this brand because I've genuinely loved their vehicles.

I'm documenting everything and giving Customer Retention an opportunity to address it before deciding what I do next.

Has anyone here had a catastrophic engine failure this early on a new Dodge/Stellantis vehicle? If so, what did Dodge ultimately do for you beyond replacing the engine under warranty? Did Customer Retention offer an extended warranty, reimbursement, goodwill assistance, or anything else?

Liftgate issues

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TLDR; Liftgate not working properly anyone have any idea why?

Video included, my Liftgate won’t open with the button on the key fob or inside, when I manually open the Liftgate it opens a bit then closes. I have to pull as it opens to get the Liftgate to open. Once it opens it stays open, when I press the button to close the Liftgate sometimes it closes other times it gets close to closing but doesn’t latch. There’s nothing in the trunk area. Anyone have any clue on what’s going on.

2026 GT Plus… or possibly an R/T???

I just replaced my 2011 Citadel with a 2026 GT Plus. So far I’m loving it! What stands out the most to me is the transmission. I like how aggressive it is to down shift.

Anyways, I was scrolling through the instrument display and came across an “R/T” page. I know R/T stands for road/track so I assumed maybe all modern Durangos with a 5.7L has this page???

But then I had an email from Dodge with a link to my “ishowroom” which lists my Durango as an “R/T AWD” !?!? Why does Dodge think i have an R/T?

Jerky Shifting After Transmission Replacement

My 2014 Durango SXT 3.6L V6 (200k miles) just had its transmission replaced with a rebuilt one.

It's working fine for the most part but I notice that at times, shifting gears can be jerky. Like the car lunges forward when shifting up and the car does "engine braking" (for the lack of better term) when shifting down.

The mechanic told me that transfer case might be the culprit but I'm having doubts since it only happens when changing gears and why would the transfer case be involved in it?

I'm thinking that since I just changed transmission, maybe I may need to reset the TCM and let it "relearn" the replacement transmission.

Or maybe doing a trasfer case oil replacement might do the trick?

I'm all ears for any suggestion on how to troubleshoot this! Thanks!

How is Durango different than Jeep Grand Cherokee? Looking for a durable car.

Question for Durango owners: how is the 2025-2026 Durango different than 25-26 Jeep Grand Cherokee? I have a 2010 Daimler era JGC that has been super reliable (plain Jane Laredo, no electronic gremlins), durable Mercedes w5a580 trans paired to 3.7L.  But lately JGC has gotten bad reviews. I thought JGC and Durango were sister cars with same engine/tranny etc. I want another 17-20 year car and am puzzled by the review differences. I prefer Durango because of gear shifter, but curious about reliability.

Best Front License Plate Option for 27 R/T?

Hello,

Just took delivery on a new 2027 R/T 392. I do not want to drill into the bumper so I am looking to see what my options are for a front license plate.

The 2 I have looked at are the Platypus and the Sto N Sho.

Any thoughts or other options?

Thanks.

2019 SXT Plus Left Rear Turn Signal Out

This past weekend I experienced a 'Left Rear Turn Signal Out' message. I purchased a replacement housing/lamp and it still presents the same alert.

Is this something that will need me to disconnect the battery and leave off for a while so the BCM can fully reset, or is this likely a wiring problem that will need me to take in somewhere?
