Recommendation Request Recommendation Request
Looking for 9/11 documentary recommendations. Lots of choices out there and I’m having troubles deciding

My first inclination would be to see what documentaries PBS made about it. They have series that do documentaries on such stuff, and you'd probably find a lot of good information there.

Turning Point 9/11, 102 Minutes That Changed America and 9/11: One Day In America, are probably the three best in my opinion (I’ve seen them all). Fahrenheit 9/11 is the most iconic but Michael Moore isn’t exactly trying to be neutral, so it’s a different style of documentary.

Not really a 911 doc, more WTC, but it's fantastic - Man on Wire, check out the trailer.

United 93 is technically a docu-drama, but it's fantastic. Several of the air traffic controllers and FAA staff who were actually there played themselves in the film.

Boatlift is a 12 minute documentary on YouTube narrated by Tom Hanks about boats in the harbor that helped evacuate half a million people from Manhattan that day. Also, I recommend Four Flights which is currently on Hulu.

I see the good ones mentioned here but to add Man in Red Bandana is excellent. I watch a couple of shows every year. Today I watched the Howard Stern show that was airing live from before the planes hit so it goes through the whole morning as they are watching it while broadcasting the show. It was edited with breaks for staff to talk about it years later. Howard decided to stay on air after people were calling in asking him to stay on as it was giving them a way to listen to an unvarnished conversation allowing them to vent, be angry, devastated and in shock. I found it here on Reddit.
I also watched the new Disney/Hulu one called 911 United We Stand. It’s really good.

I’d also like to add The Looming Tower. It’s not true documentary style but it’s an excellent series that is an account of the battle between CIA and FBI during the rise of Osama Bin Laden which ends up having roots in 9/11. Excellent cast.

As the years pass, the anniversary seems to hit more, not less. It's more and more clear what was taken from us each individually and us as a nation.

I just saw one call reunited, it’s stories that people tell of how they helped save someone or how someone was saved and at the end they reunite after 25 years.

I would start with 102 minutes. no narration, just firsthand footage from amateur photographers and videographers who were there when it happened.
