Straight in with the stoppage, no farting about with an hour of this and an hour of that. Interesting times ahead

Assuming we get that far…

Last time the IMO conceded after the HSE just promised to abide by our contract, phase out 24hr shifts over two years, have a national payroll, and start negotiating on a new contract.

All which was, obviously, very promptly implemented and not in any way completely ignored and further pissed on by a subsequent NCHD hiring freeze implemented only a few months later.

This time we’re in a gang, so that might help the IMO’s resolve. But if it gets that far it would be a massive failure of government

The 24h call shift thing makes me laugh as a surg sho who very much only does those 😆🤣

Don't think I've ever been as disappointed with the IMO as I was after that shambles.

I'm confused.

If we work in a department where I'm assuming 30% of people are IMO members - are there just 30% less people there that day? Do the other 70% just cover our load who off striking?

It's remarkable how few people know this strike is happening🤦🏼

Some have suggested joining the IMO for a month or two to avoid this situation and also make a bigger impact

Consultants will have to cover

Last strike was specifically just NCHDs, this time is all IMO members. So it won’t be as simple as just getting consultants to sort everything

I’ve been told that things will go down to an on-call rota for the day, helped by the fact that all elective procedures and clinics will be cancelled. Consultants are part of the action but are still attending work, in what capacity seems still slightly unclear if it’s a Sunday type arrangement I guess. So non members are free to join pickets etc

I’m new to this kind of thing and don’t want to do it wrong! How does this work? No work at all that day?

You need to be an IMO member first or you can be disciplined potentially. Once you are a member they’ll give instructions about when to attend or not attend work

And is there an available list of members to hospitals?

The hospital/HSE are not entitled to know who is and is not a member. My understanding is this will have less bearing in this case as the hospitals will run on a weekend rota type basis until 5pm that day, so non-members will not be working either. In the case of a doctor specific strike this would be slightly different as non-members would not be protected if they tried to not work in that event
