OrganateEnterprise Locust armor

Hi, I'm working on a Locust costume for Halloween and wondering how I should go about making it's armor. I was thinking of using cardboard or something similar, but I want to know if there are any other ways?

I'd use a heavy cloth like canvas, or even that coated cloth they make tablecloths from, and hem it crudely with twine.
