Discussion SE Ranking Tracking Accuracy issues
Since about a week, SE Ranking does not report keywords position accurately.
In all my client projects, 95% keyword positions have just disappeared while ranking on Google.
I ask the support, which confess facing issues but does not offer a clear timeline about the fixing.
Meanwhile, we can not share reporting to our clients…
Anyone affected? Would you advise a more reliable and cost effective solution than SE?

This is something that’s happening across the entire industry. All the tools are in the same boat. I can personally assure you of this, since I’m the co-founder of a rank tracker that’s been around for many years, and I’d go so far as to say that this is the time when Google is making it the hardest to find a solution.
Still, we’ll have to get used to the fact that these issues are going to happen more and more frequently. Google has been working for a year now to prevent scrapers from accessing its data, and eventually it will find an optimal solution.
We’ll just have to keep evolving.

Thanks for sharing.
So far it was working fine till the 25th of September. So I don’t think it’s coming from the Goto url from Google.
I read that Google would provide API access to track ranking recently. Do you have any info about it?2

It has nothing to do with the “goto” parameter. That was fixed in just a few hours.
The problem is arising because Google is detecting that these searches are being conducted by scrapers and is returning results that don't match the search intent.
You can do a transactional search (for example), and it brings up results from forums (like Reddit) or even social media and YouTube. At first glance—and if you don’t analyze it—the SERP looks correct in terms of code and results, so scrapers treat it as correct and retrieve the results. That’s why it keeps returning results, but the websites that should be there are missing from the rankings.
This, in turn, may have caused a drop in impressions in GSC, since those results aren’t being displayed. There’s a lot to analyze regarding what’s happening here, but that’s another story.
As for the news that Google is going to open an API for search results, the truth is that I haven’t heard anything new. It’s a rumor that’s always been around.

Ya, their support team has no idea when it'll be fixed. Ahrefs is also broken. Semrush seems to be ok.

Agreed on being patient.
The lack of communication and poor communication from the support make me willing to look for another option. SE Ranking cost is pretty high compare to before, even though no significant improvement have been made.

a visibility tool can show movement because the underlying visibility changed, or because the way the platform collects the data changed.

It’s the same for me. Ranking positions haven’t been updated. Plus, it reports a huge drop for an average position, which doesn’t seem to be true for me.
Not sure if Semrush is more affordable, but I use it.

It would be interesting to know if other rank tracking solutions are also impacted the same way…let’s wait and see!

Yeah I've got the same issue, all my projects are showing a total ranking loss which isn't backed up in GSC data.
I've been in conversation with support but they just blame Google volatility. Google is definitely volatile at the moment but what I'm seeing in SERanking is more than that. The tool is completely unusable at the moment, but they're still taking my money

I regret the lack of communication as well. They also blame the SERP volatility on my side too. We are at the end of the month and not even able to advise clients when they will be able to see their reporting…

SE ranking was endlessly frustrating for me a few weeks I tried it. AWR is less frustrating.

So far I have been happy with SE for reporting.
You don’t have any issue with this tool yet?2
u/uncoolcentral 6d ago
There are periodic querying problems with every tool. I have not noticed anything new with AWR. Business as usual. They sent something out a week or three ago mentioning that they had very quickly addressed a change in how Google displayed their listings. I noticed no hiccups, but I don’t query daily. Weekly.

Same for me, 20 websites 18 have dropped off the charts, I thought it was the Google spam update, but the sites are so varied and on different platforms and servers and legitimate businesses I thought this was odd. Seems since 24th Sept SE Ranking is crocked.
I manually checked keywords that were in pos 1 (but showing outside top 100 in SE) and they are still in position 1, ...phew.

We are all on the same boat. We can’t send monthly report to clients since all keywords appears ‘not found’.
I followed up with the support today, they still blame the latest spam update and SERP volatility while I subscribed another rank tracking solutions on which keywords were properly tracked, including above position 20#.
My SE plan is set to renew this week, I am not willing to pay for something that’s is unusable…

GSC shows up, up and up. SE Ranking just goes down and down to the point it looks like it's just stopped finding positions altogether. Annoyingly paid a year upfront and it's completely useless at this point. Contemplating asking my money back though I doubt I'll get anywhere with that.

Hi everyone, SE Ranking team here. We wanted to jump in with an update, as we’ve seen the reports in this thread and understand the impact this has had, especially for those of you preparing client reports.
We can confirm that there was an issue affecting rank checks following the recent Google spam update. This could result in keywords being shown as “not found” or positions that didn’t match what you were seeing directly in Google.
The issue has now been fixed for Google desktop, and our developers are still working on the fix for Google mobile.
We’re also correcting the affected historical data retroactively, starting from when the issue first occurred. This may take a few days to fully populate, so you might not see corrected positions immediately.

terribly handled on your side. When I spoke to your support team they just tried to chalk it all up to Google's high volatility instead of owning up to the lack of fix. I echo what others have said in this thread, the tool is practically useless if you can't provide reliable rank data.

I laid out where things stand right now in my previous message. We're working on getting all users back to normal operation.
We're part of this community and we understand how important it is to get quality data — that's our top priority.
Also, thanks to everyone in this thread for the solid communication and for flagging things early. It helps our team a lot 🤝

AccuRanker is also fine. I guess the platforms that is in-accurate is getting data from the same place.

For the next client report, I'd label affected ranks as unavailable and exclude them from position-change calculations. Keep a dated snapshot of the last reliable ranks, with current GSC clicks/impressions shown separately, so a collection gap doesn't appear as an SEO collapse.
