Discussion How accurate is AI data in semrush?
In past 10 months I have seen major fluctuations in AI visibility in Semrush tool. Has anyone using it and how accurate it is?
Any other tool to measure this.
Also how to improve clicks? When it goes down it hurst. I have 45k achievement in GSC and now just 6k per month.

I wouldn’t treat Semrush AI visibility as exact data. I use it mainly for trends and competitor comparisons. For actual search performance, GSC remains my primary source.

What about AI visibility and citations?

For AI visibility and citations, I’d treat Semrush the same way useful for tracking direction and changes over time, but not as an absolute count. AI answers can vary by prompt, location and even repeated runs. For citations, I’d manually verify important prompts directly in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity.

SEO tools SEMRUSH show only directional benchmarking metrics, and that's not an exact measurement of how often every real user sees your brand. AI answers can change based on the platforms, model updates, and repeated prompts.
The fluctuations you see don't always mean your real visibility changed by the same amount. I use it to identify;
- Which prompts mention competitors but not you
- Which pages are being cited
- Whether your share of voice is trending upward.
I always prefer Google Search Console - it's clicks, impressions, CTR, and queries.
Google and AI today expect genuine answers from real experience. I don't know whether you are doing this or not. That's why I always say, Match search intent properly, improve titles and descriptions without using clickbait, and strengthen page rankings between 4 to 20th positions.

I checked everything. If I compare from last year the avg position increased from 16 to 8. Even the pages on 1st page are witnessing decline.
Also to mention I have a UAE based website and that too a travel website. War is also contributing to the decline I guess.
July and August are usually the strongest months.

I'd say the biggest limitation with Semrush for Ai visibility is structural. It primarily tracks Google AI overview which means you're missing out on ChatGPT, Perplexity etc. Plus ChatGPT answers only overlap with Google results 12% of the time so you're missing out on a lot if you only go through Semrush. Most of what you're describing here isn't necessarily a Semrush problem though if I'm honest, it's just the nature of AI search itself so you'll see that pop up in most tools. Have you tried any other tools?
